I decided to put some extra funds my soon to be in my hands NORC M14 18.5'' Match-SOCOM. I'll probably put an ARMS#18 mount & Leupold MK4 3-9 power MRT Illuminated optic..I have plans to fire close range & up to 500-600m.
Any comments & advice is welcomed.

I alternate between a Leupold 3.5 - 10 X 40mm MK IV M1/LR mildot scope for long range stuff, and a Leupold MK IV 1.5 - 5 X 20mm M/RT Illum. SPR reticle scope for closer stuff. However the 1.5 - 5 M/RT will work fine out to 600 meters.I will be using this scope as my service rifle scope.

I've been using the Leupold MR/T 3x9x36mm Mark 4 M1 knobs for the Service Rifle game up to 600 meters. Great results, great success. Anything larger is bulky and expensive, not to mention overrated.

Leupold scored a winner with the MR/T series of scopes. After having competed Service Conditions matches with a LR/T 4.5x14x50mm, I can honestly say, that the MR/T is all you really need. Once I sold that LR/T and slapped on the MR/T, there was no turning back. My scores just rose, simply because I could focus on putting that bullet where it needed to go and also focus on "Sight Picture" mantra. With the LR/T 4.5X14X50mm, I was focused on the superior hardware and not on better marksmanship.

With the MR/T, I'm back in the saddle again.

Good choice with the Leupold.

Cheers,
Barney

The one I'm getting is the MR/T with M3 knobs to be more specific.

M3 knobs are a smart move. The M14 tends to have the scope mounted up high and I can just picture the M1 Mark4 knobs way out there in the breeze.

Let us know how the shopping turns out !

I just got my Valley Gunsmithing SOCOM and put my Leupold 1.5-5 MR/T on the ARMS mount. At least the price didn't break the bank. She's a beaut, Mr. Smith does excellent work. Just needs a paint job... comming soon. Should have a range report soon. Check it out.

Thought of going with the 1.5x5 MR/T but with the special reticle I made a decision with the other, just more options that came with it..For me the 9x will make a difference at longer ranges etc..Anyways, not a bad choice you got goin on there & your system is almost identical to mine...

Yup exactly Hungry...& I'll have to get taller rings for the whole deal but it is all good.

I have a Burris Fulfield 3X-9X mounted on an Arms18 mount that I got from Hungry on one of mine. Problem is> I haven' had time to sight it in!

I'm really interested in hearing how skooch's gun's accuracy is. I've heard nothing but good things about Valley and I'm sold on his work!

I'm sending one of mine to Valley for a SOCOM conversion but I'll be running a Springfield Scout mount with an Eotech for it (it's my white tail gun).

I had a M14 for IPSC (I like major cal), an ex-Israeli Win built with green plastic stock, but wanted a scout scope, but how to mount it? Installed a used Hart heavy match barrel (heavy ahead of chamber, to mount base), installed one-piece Leupold base, cut hole in upper handgaurd, mounted Burris 2 3/4 scout scope w/ flip-up lens covers. It was heavy, about twelve pounds, but did it shoot! I could double and triple tap as fast as my AR-15, would shoot into 1" with Win 150 gr SP (i had a bunch), shot two deer with it.

That was what I was going to get then I got a sweet deal on the MR/T. I here IOR is really good.

Skooch & others are right on this one....With all the info I acquired inside & out of this website...Cannot go wrong with an Leupy MR/T for price & quality...

What about the IOR 1.1-4x 26 tactical scope? I have seen them featured on some scout rifles, any info?

Actually I heard good things for the IOR 1.5-8x 26 Tact scope is even better..
