Hi guys, I just received a beautiful M96 and don't want to have it bubba'd but would benefit greatly from having it scoped. So far I have only found one scope option that doesn't require drilling and tapping.

Anyone have any experience with this product or good experiences with another item I have missed in my search? Thank you for any opinions or suggestions.

I don't seem to be able to link directly to the m96 scout scope page.

No help for you but flagged for interest as I've got a similar situation. I'll never be able to shoot to what this rifle is capable of but until it gets glass it's hampered.
Good luck.

Go to Sand K mounts. They have an online site. Their mounts are solid and don't alter the gun. You'll need to buy a scout scope with intermediate eye relief. Both Leupold and Burris make scout scopes. I've heard the Burris is the better of the two. They make a 2.7 fixed and I believe the other is a 2-7X variable. You can use a handgun scope but I don't think the eye relief is as good.

Ya - no US company will ship optics :(

I got this scope from a member in EE for my M48

13.5" eye relief 2-7x it's pretty awesome and sould work just fine on the M96 as well.

Here's the specs for it [even though it's a US site] there should still be a couple in Canada - at worst, ask your LGS to order one, for some reason, they can still get optics.

Just ordered the s and k mount over the phone. They deal with Canadians all the time with no problems. The mount with rings was 80 dollars plus tax and shipping (roughly 120 bucks) so that's not too bad and I don't have to scar a wonderful rifle :D
Thanks for the help guys its very much appreciated, now to find a good scout scope.

What make is that scope Sean please?

I found this online and I thought it would be a pretty cool scope. Now SWFA doesn't ship to Canada IIRC and this particular scope is kind of a one-off, custom run sort of item BUT it would be interesting to see if the Leupold custom shop could make you something similar. If it were me, the only things I'd change would be the reticle (with some sort of mildot) to make it useful for quick hold-overs and maybe add some target turrets.

I found a Canadian website that carries the hilux model and read some pretty good reviews on it. I think that's the model I'm going with, I'm a fan of the higher magnification. When its all set up I'll post some pics so you can see the final product. Can't wait to get this done now.

... so what was the site? I sure could use another one :)

Just finished getting the S&K mount on and put on a leupold 2.5x LER scope on and the rifle shoulders beuatifully for the scope picture. Got the scope from a friendly CGNer through the EE. Can't wait for some nice weather so I can get it sighted in.

I'll ask the wife to take a photo then I'll try to figure out how to post it here lol. The wife will post them, she's much brighter than I am.

Wow, that looks like it belongs there, Blizzak.
I know that the mount attaches with the pin at the front, but what holds it at the rear?
Does it clip aroung the edge of the sight base or something?

To lock it in place you have to remove the leafspring. A special nut slides into the groove that the spring sat in and the nut gets screwed into place to hold everything tight in the back end. The instructions were a bit confusing for me at first but I found some pics online and they became much clearer. I'm very happy with the way the setup looks, I'm hopeful that it will hold zero well as it seems to be a solid setup. Pretty reasonable price overall as well. 84 bucks for the mount(rings included) and 200 for the scope.
