Forgiveness asked in advance for the noob question.

I'm a new member of the black rifle club, with a freshly de-greased DA556/Norinco 14.5" carbine.

I'm looking at these Bushnell AR series scopes.

I would like a QD style mount so that I can switch back and forth between the optic and the carry-handle sight (or BUIS if I eventually buy one) as my mood takes me.

The questions is this: What mount should I be looking at, and what mount height do I need so that the fixed A2 front sight post does not obscure my field of view in the scope?

I had the same question when I completed my at build. I ended up going with a trs-25 due to the price point and high reviews. This is just a red dot though. And for the mount I grabbed a utg medium size mount from amazon. It allowed perfect co witnessing for my sights and the dot. They have three different sizes I do believe.

An affordable and popular QD scope mount for use on an AR would be the Burris PEPR cantilever mount. You may need to rezero your optics a little bit when you replace it.

Thanks for the examples.

Any comments on what to look for in regards to height for clearing the fixed front sights?

I put some rather... bulky BUIS on my Oracle, but I had a riser rail in my parts bin left over from when I tried to put a scope on my 858. The riser, coupled with a Millett cantilever mount gives plenty of clearance to run everything on the gun. The Millet mount is also capable of running either 30mm or 1" tubes, using insert collars to change the size. Right now it's not the best setup, but it was inexpensive, and I had more money left for ammo in the end.

The standard height adm or pepr mounts are fine. You wont see the front sight with a magnified optic. Adm or vortex mounts are much better than the burris.

I have a few ADM recon mounts for my AR scopes. They hold zero as well as any convential ring setup. One is on a .308 AR so that's a decent kick for a AR QD mount.

If you are getting a typical 1X4 scope use a forward mount like this....

I was thinking of the 3-12X Bushnell AR scope, since 4x scopes for me are barely better than using iron sights.

Been looking at all of the suggestions here (very much appreciated) and I think I might just go for the ADM Recon-H. Same as the one pictured above, but a bit taller. I've got a big fat head and in holding the rifle last night realized that it's no more difficult to look over the current sights than it is through them, so the height is no issue. It's not like I'll be in Mosin PU Sniper Chin Weld territory!
