Scored a couple MilSurps today!

It looks a lot like an East German refurb to me.

What make you think it is a refurbished gun, Steve?
The ones I've seen were stamped with serial numbers in places where later war guns were usually not serial numbered,e.g., butt plate, barrel bands, safety, floorplate, trigger guard, cocking piece. There really aren't enough images to tell much. Seems to me late war K98's were only serial numbered on the action, bolt handle root and stock and I think they didn't bother to serial stocks even near the end.

I think it's a nice restorable K98. With some wood and hardware it could be back to original. It should have a kriegsmodell stock( laminated, no bolt disassembly disc in the stock) Cupped buttplate in the white with hole for bolt disassembly and the barrel bands should be welded and screwed on construction not milled with spring retainers like earlier war guns. I've been told the welded and screwed on barrel bands are the hardest to find of those items but they can be had. Also no cleaning rod or bayonet lug.

Alrighty, here you go.

The K98:

All matching numbers, except the bottom of the mag... Has a number crossed over, and then the other number stamped into it... So I'm guessing a refurb at some point?

How hard is it to find wood for these? I've always wanted one, and can't wait to restore it! (And find a bayonet!)

How much do these guns roughly cost? (I know.... I know...)

The Steyr:

All matching, except the stock. Has numbers crossed out. Definatly an interesting gun! From what I've been able to fine, ammo is scarce! I reload, so I'm not too worried.

Ive got about twenty or so boxes of this ammo in mint boxes.....and a bunch just in the clips

These seems like it might be the case, as some sites list the kriegsmodell's also not having the locking screw on the trigger guard, which mine does not.

The serial number lined out and restamped seems to be common on Vopo reworks as well as the semi-kriegsmodell stocks. The Yugo reworks seem to be scrubbed and restamped more often than not. It is possible that someone replaced the floor plate post war though so who knows.

Does the stock have a 'sun' looking cartouche on the bottom of the pistol grip, right behind the triggerguard? (might be hard to see, the stock looks sanded)
