Scorpio .22LR First Impressions

Hey, I joined the lets add some cheap mods crew for these Scorpio outfits.
Biggest gripe I had was the stupid tiny bolt handle... problem solved with cheap Chinese rubber slip on bolt knobs lol.
They come in small and large, small fits most .22's, probably the Zastava M85, large fits Rems/Mausers, SKS, you name it.
Tourbon bolt knobs, Amazon etc. I'll be buying more...they work well and if you put a dab of silicone caulk they will hold even better.

Hello, sorry for resurrecting this zombie thread. Just curious, after owning them for some time, how are they holding up? No reliability issues? Accuracy good? I don't expect benchrest accuracy but, say, hunting small game accuracy? I am intrigued by them and might pick one up.
Any one wants to part with one? LOL!

Liking mine better and better every time I shoot. Two issues out of the box:
* Sighs are too course for target shooting (sight screws schiddy, soft, hardware store Philips crap).
* metal to stock fit was terrible.

Regarding the sights, I ordered a cheap Williams dovetail peep sight, and discovered it was too high for the existing front sight. I had an old globe sight I picked up from a local dealer for 10 bucks along with the dovetail base, and despite the strange mounting notch on the Scorpio; got it mounted. From a sand-bag bench rest using cci standard velocity (it's favorite right now) in our 20 yard indoor range, 10 shots go in the same hole between 5/16" and 3/8".

Last two free hand shoots using 20 yard pistol targets in our 20 yard range, I had the top score, and I was shooting against Rugers, Mossberg targets, a couple of older Anchutz, a number of CZs and a bunch of others. Freehand I usually shoot 93-97/100.

I am very happy with this rifle; however, I may be buying a single shot Anschutz, with the good sights, in which case, I will be putting a low power scope on it and using it for our scope class; my present scoped rifle is a Norinco JW 15; I loaned it to a friend of mine and he beat me, with one target at 98/100. It likes Elie Sport the best, but he was using Winchester X (seems to like those too).

Regarding the metal to stock fit; I roughed up the inside of the stock and pillar bedded it with JB Weld Plastic; I also rasped out the fore-end to make sure the barrel is free-floated.

The trigger is near perfect, no creep, crisp break just below 4 lbs and little or non over-travel.

My bolt and action was silky smooth right out of the box, and I mean smooth; tight fit, but tip the muzzle down, and it slides forward all on it's own.

While the barrel is what I would call "medium" weight, it is lots heavy enough; I do wish it was longer, maybe 24"; longer sight radius is a bonus for iron sights.

Thanks for the nice follow up review.
I would go for compact scope anyway, Norinco plinko irons sight are generally terrible on most models anyway.
How is feeding from mags? Is it reliable? Do they all need some modifications to make them reliable?
Had a Savage mark 2 once but to make them feed reliably, I had push slightly from the bottom as the mag sat to low and rounds wouldn't feed.

Hey, I'm the OP. The scorpio is my kid's favourite .22. I cut the stock back for them. It's very heavy compared to our other .22s, so maybe not the best hunting gun, but that doesn't stop my son from hunting with it - he bagged his first game this past fall with it - 100% accuracy. We have it zeroed at 35 yards, sort of an intermediate distance. It shoots tight groups (usually 1.5" @ 35 yards), and the action seems to be very reliable with almost no misfires for us. I pretty much never get to shoot it (I got myself a Mark II to shoot alongside my son at the range), and my son has probably shot over 1,000 rounds through it - or more, we've bought a few thousand rounds and I'm now having to budget for it, he loves shooting so much!
We mounted at simmons rimfire scope on it not long after buying it.
I clean our guns often. I do notice that the scorpio gets dirtier in the action than our other .22s, but that's probably because it is shot more than any other gun. The only firearm that gets close to as much action is our SKS.
Not sure if this helps - but more than a few times I've said "I wish I bought two of them when they were $199!"

Still have mine, shoots CCI minimags pretty good, match ammo is a waste though this one anyway.
Still prefer the 522. The 322 is good for hunting.

Mine shoots the best (same hole at 20 yards with iron sights) with CCI Standard Velocity. Minimags open up the group to about an inch from 5/16.
