Has anyone replaced the barrel on their EM322x and is it worth doing ? Just picked one up last week. Shoots about what I was expecting 1” ten shots at 50m. 2 to 2.5 at 100. Tried 4 different boxes of ammo. SK rifle match, SK standard plus, Eley Match , Remington Eley EPS. All shot similarly. All four shoot very well in my mtr and cz 452 American. The barrel has 3 grub screws that secure it to the action and it comes apart very easy. Going to stress free bed the action reinstall the barrel and torque grub scews to 30 in h pounds to see if it will tighten up any. The bedding definitely needs work.

In the 332 series, the X is a great action. If you have the budget, it would be a great action to build off.... certainly alot easier vs the long barrel (A) version which has a pressed and pinned install.

The X barrels didn't shoot as well for me as the A barrels. With a tuner and some quality Lapua ammo, the A barrel is shooting as well as I would expect from a rimfire barrel so I sold off my X's as there was little point in spending more money to swap barrels.

Proper bedding is a great idea and surprisingly, the A and X actions I have/had fit into the same bedding... made for easy swaps to test.

Good luck... with some TLC, these actions work really well

Thanks for the information Jerry. I was wondering if the barrels were installed differently on the 2. Read through most of the other threads and didn’t see any thing mentioned about barrel removal. I’m going to try the few things I mentioned above and see if it improves any. Still good enough as is for a hunting and plinking rifle. I was going to tune the trigger but it’s not bad, a little creepy but breaks pretty consistently at 2.5 lbs. Another thing I might try is slightly countersinking the barrel where the grub centre screw contacts. Right now it snugs up on the radius and when I removed it looked like it might be moving slightly.

These rifles are all lose in the stock; bedding will definately help; maybe a bit of weight in the butt stock also; should help with balance as well and give beter stability. A barrel change will cost you 3 x what you paid for the rifle.

Agree with everything you mentioned. So far I’ve set the grub screws to 30 inch pounds, shimmed the action screws with light aluminum washers so that when torqued to 20 inch pounds the receiver tightened up evenly. Prior to that tightening the front screw lightly and the back screw the receiver would pivot back. It also rocks side to side excessively. Next step pillars and bedding. So far these two adjustments have made it shoot more consistently 3/4”@ 50 2”@100 ten shots. I’m not sure it’s going to do much better than that , but for a hunting and plinking gun I’m good with that.

It might be worth having a look at the crown too, lots of Chinese guns seem to be pretty rough there.

Both mine and my cousin's rifle had great crowns; my cousin has a threaded barrel on his and a beautiful finish. Our Local Canadian Tire store has both a long barreled and short barreled version. Sitting with some other rifles, these have a way nicer bluing. The barrels in my experience are the last thing you need to worry about with these rifles..

curious how this project has advanced?
Is the 322 action worthy of modding? rebarreling?
can take-off barrels of some other make be fitted?

If you have a hot enough torch and a big enough hammer, you can make anything fir. LOL
