I've been that looking at the scorpion optics red hot 17 scope for my 17hmr and wondering if they are any good?
I haven't been able to find any reviews on them and I know they are fairly inexpensive but the over the counter guaranteed replacement is hard to beat..
If anyone has tried this product line I'd like to hear your experiences with scorpion optics ....

Scorpion optics are relatively cheap Chinese products that are sold for a little more than they are worth. I have nothing against Chinese products or in fact Scorpion, I just think they are too much money for what you get. I put them with King Optics and Quigley Ford. These scope lines are usually carried by smaller dealers who do not carry main line optics and rarely do box store or larger independent serious optics dealers carry them. Honestly I see no reason to buy these products when there are so many other entry level products that are supported by larger companies like Bushnell and Vortex. We have mounted a few for customers who brought them in and we have found the external finish and adjustments fairly poor. Phil.

They are crap. Stay away.

I beg to differ... I have 5 of the 3-9 compacts on rimfires and 597 magnum and they are great. Price isn't bad and they also get a lot of freeze thaw cycles and haven't fogged up nor lost zero. I'm happy .... what's your personal experience that makes you state without explanation that they are crap?

I rate them right up there value wise to King Optics, Quigley Ford, and Huskemaw. In all cases, you pay for more than you receive. The Scorpion costs the least of the lot, so naturally, you receive the least amount of quality in return.

They certainly aren't beautiful, but the ones I have I'd put up against cheapie Bushnell's fit and finish all day long... I've had to use the warranty twice and it was smooth sailing... All that being said I just buy them for my rimfires to beat around on... I would hesitate to put a Scorpion on say my Mini 14 as I think it would beat the guts out of it... I've seen some of what they call their top line optics priced high and even though I like my rimfire scorpions, I'd likely move on to Bushnell once I got to those price points.

a rimfire is hardly a proving ground for a scope imo.

I held up the two rimfire scopes a few years ago and the 4x was clearer than the variable.
I bought the 4x and put it on a 22 lever. Fat X hairs and I ended up leaving it on a 22 I sold.
Next gun show there was a display of Scorpion scopes.
Curious as I am, I was allowed to view the same two model rimfire scopes.
This time, the variable scope was more clear than the 4x.
That was 'nuff convincing for me.
Yes, I had the variable on 4x to fairly compare said scopes.

ah scorpions scopes.

if you buy one please do the following
take the scope out of the box and throw it in the garbage were it belongs.
now get the box,cut a hole in both ends, fixed a cross out of string to the front end
and duct tape the box to your rifle.

you should be good to go now
happy hunting

My brother went to the warehouse in Winnipeg where he scopes are made. The owner was nice enough to give him a tour of the warehouse and gave him a good deal on a Venom scope. We mounted it on his M305 and within 50 rounds the scopes reticle turned a quarter turn inside the scope. Went back to Scorpion and received another scope, this time from a better batch(says the owner). Next time we go out the scopes lens actually fall out of the scope! WTF. I think he went through 3 scopes before he went back to the warehouse and demanded his money back. After a heated discussion, the owner cut him a cheque for what he paid for it and he stormed out. We wasted a lot of time and ammo trying to zero that POS, and that's why I said to stay away from them.

The hunting optics market is a cluttered one with many long term players. There are so many top and middle level players putting out quality stuff, you need better than cheap Chinese crap to break in and survive. This is why so many come and go while the industry stalwarts stay.

Junk. A Scorpion rep was at the Selkirk rifle range. I looked through his scopes and IMO a Bushnell Banner is a better scope optically. Waste of money.
