Hey all! I'm hoping one of you more knowledgable gentlemen may be able to answer my question. I just picked up a DA Socom on the EE and have a Promag Archangel stock I'm going to drop it into. I've been looking at the scout hand guards on m14.ca and like them but wasn't sure which model to get. One (the SHG model) says medium and heavyweight barrels are not supported and the other (the SHG-M) says standard and heavy barrels are not supported. Am I correct in assuming that I want the first one for the Socom?

Ive always found frank @ M14.ca very helpful figuring out what you need when you call and chat with him. Like most M14 folks I've met or chatted with, for that matter. It's a pretty good group of guys in this particular part of the firearms industry.

I emailed them and they were very fast to respond to my questions. Ordered the correct SGH and now just have to wait.... and wait... and wait for it to arrive. Everytime I have something gun related shipping to me its like trying to go to sleep on Christmas Eve... except it's a week(s) long experience.
I've had the SHG in different stocks and the mounting hardware interferes along the top of the stock.
I took a die grinder with a round ball Burr and just clearance the stock where the heads of the fastening screws on the SHG hit till it fit without interference.
Modification did not affect appearance. Even later with stock handguard in place. It now resides on a black feather stock.

I have a scout-scoped DA Socom and it is one of the most enjoyable rifles I've ever owned and shot.

I've changed to a smaller fixed 4x scout scope since this pic was taken, along with a Match rear sight, but it's still one of my favourites. Post up yours when you get it together!
