Scout Mount experiences.

ton45 right click on my AVATAR go to "save picture as..."
Now on your computer click on "my pictures", expand by required percentages, and viola, a picture of my T-26 copy with the earlier and not presently used Burris scope.

PS Using the Leupold Scout Scope, SIlverback and I had great results at up to 300 yards using this 2.5 power optic on a 10 x 10 inch metal gong.....
Cheers...........

C9er: Rooster mount is available from Brownells, springfield mount is available from wolverine.

TM/SHarkson: I went for many light coats...probably used 3/4 of the whole bottle.

Muskaw: Barrel is not norinco original, rather an american made barrel with the proper threads.

Nice paint job tritium! I like the sling mount too. Are mag changes effected by the front grip? It looks really far back.

Also anyone know what Wolverine wants for a springfield scout mount?
cheers

Hey bro!

I run my foregrip as far back as I can and I set it so that it doesn't interfere with mag changes at all! I've had no issues and I'm a SWAT guy who sets stuf up so it works!

The sling mount idea came from one of the guys on the M14 forum (and I'm a huge fan of single points slings!) and the paint job was my own idea for deer hunting! I now have 5 M14 stocks... winter with German pine needle pattern, that brown one, an OD green pistol grip, a Boyds walnut and a Skullboy Cadpad!

I got my Springfield mount through one of the guys at M14forum.com. They are an awesome bunch and know a ton about the M14! I paid 100 US for the mount and handguard. I think Wolverine charges $180.00 Can.

Alot of guys get rid of them and go ARMS#18 so they are easy to come by!

Thanks to Hungry, I'm hooked on the Norc M14..I have 2 and they both shoot MOA (and , of course, minute-of-whitetail) so I'm happy!

A couple of things I should add to this thread.

The Springfield Armoury Squad Scout model can
probably be ordered through any dealer that carries
Springfield products. It is not popular, so there
may be a delay before it arrives.

The SA Scout model, along with the SOCOM 16, is
a restricted weapon. It is 1/2" below the minimum
length. In addition, the muzzle brake makes it quite
loud, and it would probably not be a good hunting
rifle for that reason.

A picture of the SA Scout is available at:
http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-rifles-scout.shtml.

The Leupold IER scope is model 58810 or 58820. Any
Leupold dealer can probably give you a quote on it. It
also is not popular, and again a delay is likely.

Which is why starting with a norinco receiver and re-barreling with an 18.5 inch length barrel is the way to go for your scout. Criterion and Kreiger both have factory made 18.5 inch barrels, or find an old USGI standard length barrel (must be american made...norincos are a slightly lesser od and don't have enough meat for the vortex threads) and have her parted, re-crowned, and re-threaded.

Good luck with your scouts!

Very nice brutus. I noticed that you put the scope fairly far down. I was thinking if having the it just where the barrel meets the front receiver.

300 yards with a 2.5X is impressive. I'm dying to try it out myself.

Hey trit,
M14forum.com is a good idea. Thanks.

I've got my norc (with chopped barrel) shooting about a moa too. I've got a USGI parts kit that I haven't needed, with the exception of the rear sight... love my M305.

I'm currently running one of rooster's navy sights but I'd like to try something else. The gaslock sights with dovetails (rather than the pin) would allow the use of a tritium front but as far as I know nobody makes one in metric thread?

Leonidas,

I have a Rooster GLFS on mine and don't figure I'll ever need the trituim..they are very wide and I don't think would be much good over 100 or 200 yards (I use my M14 for deer and some courses so I doubt I'd shoot over 150 anyway but I like a thin front sight).

I've been running an Eotech on my work gun and my fun gun (m14) and swear by them and I'haven't had any use for any other sight. Only thing I would change on my short M14 is the rear sight for a Garand rear. Much better machining and adjustment.
