Well, I want to extract some wisdom from you guys. Quite a few years ago I put a Techsight on my SKS. It improved my groups quite a bit, with the longer sight radius and all, but my eye sight has not improved over the years, and my SKS is staying home more and more, as I tend to prefer scoped firearms now.

As I still want to be able to use stripper clips, I was thinking of putting a sout mount on this rifle, replacing the rear sight (it's been removed already anyway), and adding a spare Bushnell TRS-25 I have.

I was wondering about your experiences with scout mounts. Do they move around a lot (zero retention) or are they stable? Do you have a model to recommend or not recommend?

Thanks!

I like magwedge ones personally. A few Gens/models to choose from.

Any mount that is part of receiver cover/dust cover , like a receiver cover with built in rail I find are problematic in holding a good zero/poi , too much movement and inconsistency. Most also require some fitting , filing etc.

A magwedge gen 2.5 is decently priced and fits good and tight. I have/use one and like it.
Can't use stripper clips to load with that gen though. I'm pretty sure magwedge has a gen model out that does allow that though.

I just put a Matador Arms Razor mount and a TRS-25 on my SKS. So far, so good. I can still use stripper clips (well, the ones I cut down to 5 rounds, havent tried the "high capacity" 10 round stripper clips.

I've only zeroed it at this point. Hoping to get it out and try it at 100 and maybe 200m. I'm cautiously optimistic that this will work out find.

The Razor mount is about $70 and is pretty easy to put on; it will replace the rear sight on your SKS. It is also pretty easy take off if you want to put the rear sight back on.

A trs25 will fix the lack of a scope issue, but it probably won't do much for your accuracy due to the 5moa dot or whatever it is. If your goal is just to get the gun out of the safe, it'll certainly achieve that though.

One thing to consider is how your gun ejects. Some people have smashed the rear lens on red dots like the trs25 sitting on a scout mount. Otherwise, I haven't really heard any complaints and I've considered getting one.
