I am considering putting together a 7.62mm scout rifle system. This is not a sniper system put a practical field rifle most likely based on something like a Steyr Elite (a super sturdy, acccurate, light weight and simple non-restricted bolt gun that I can be free to hump and shoot in the bush).
I want variable power optics (say 1-4X) that I can use close up (i.e. 25M both eyes open) right out to a max of about 800M. An illuminated reticle is also a secondary though not unimportant consideration.
My first choice is a S&B 4 x 24 Zenith Short Dot LE. Has anyone had any experience with it?
