wish this was a sticky

Ive got a number 5 but don't shot it much plan on getting it out soon ammo is expensive. I know its almost like a scout but I will always keep it original

I went with the Savage. same mags as my 10TR, accustock and accutrigger
Quality is just fine, No need to pay more for a Steyr

My first scout rifle was one of the original Savage scouts. Great little gun, but didn't hold a candle to the Steyr I eventually upgraded to. The Steyr is a gun I'll keep to the end.

Having said that, the Savage is far better value for money. It's 90% of the Steyr for way less than 90% of the price. I have one now in 7.62x39 as a low-budget cheap-shooting understudy for my Steyr and I enjoy it a great deal...but it's not a Steyr.

This comparison makes me laugh; it's very reminiscent of the old magazine ads (80's, maybe?) that compared a Mercedes 4-dr sedan to a Ford or K-car or some such piece of crap. Both cars were the same silver colour, both had 4 doors and 4 wheels and a steering wheel...and the ad basically made it sound as though they were functionally identical. Uh, no...

Well I got the ruger stainless 16.5 inch barrel with synthetic stock I can't wait to shoot it its so light. My axis feels lighter but my new ruger is weigh more handy

hate to say it but.....a good old indestructible mosin nagant maybe cut to around 22-24 inches....store some ammo and you would be good to go in a shtf situation on the cheap....

If you wanted something new, pretty much any scout or 10 round bolt action in .308 or 3006 would do the job...i would not limit myself to just "scout" rifles.

of course I Have mosin and could have bought any other rifle butI didn't I bought the scout which I think is pretty awesome Could have bought an AR to like everyone else to.

Nagants are garbage.. The Cost to cut the barrel negates the "value" in the POS milsurp. The gritty bolt and full 90' degree throw makes optics a no go unless you forward mount, which is a difficult proposition as the rifle was never designed for optics. The stripper clip feeding is finicky with a rimmed cartridge and requires you to remove the stripper clip before chambering a round. The trigger is complete garbage and would need to be replaced(more money) and they weigh a lot. Ammo selection is very limited unlike 308.
