Guess?
I recently installed the UTG rail on my shorty, and now I want to go with a Scout scope. I have been doing a lot of reading on my options, here and elsewhere, and I have narrowed it down to 4 choices. Regardless of how the UTG rail works out, I will stick with the scout setup. I also plan on using it on my KAR98 too...once I get a mount. I don't have any experience with IER/LER optics, so all opinions are welcome.

Thanks guys!

I have the NCstar 2-7x32 so I can only comment on the magnification side of things. You're going to want to crank it higher than 2x if you get a 2x scope, I can't leave mine on 2 or 3x and be happy with it unless I'm in the actual bush, then I just use the irons. Get yourself a variable so that you can actually test loads and whatnot, with 7x you can go a lot further than you think.

I never even considered the NcStar just because of the semi action of the rifle. You haven't had any issues with the scope at all? I do like the variable optics....

200 shots with 308 recoil and no issues, hasn't even lost zero yet. I'd ask an accessory snob how much you should spend on your scope though, anything less than $600.00 would probably be uncivilized

I actually really liked my Vortex Crossfire 2X Extended Eye relief from back in my SKS days:

Too bad that didn't make the gun more accurate.

This quest for a scout scope has really stirred up memories of days gone by, when the Internet and eBay were not an option and local suppliers were lacking.

First off, I never new about the illegality of exporting optics from the US until I started researching a Scout scope. I always took it for granted that if I couldn't get something in Canada, it was always available to me in the US. Secondly, how lacking we are up here for some things. I know most of the scopes I listed can be optained here, but apparently they are in such short supply and not readily stocked (I realize our market is not comparable to the US), most are sold out.

This has been an eye-opener for sure.

Another option, if you can find one in Canada, is the Burris
2-7 pistol scope. I've been running one for 2 years. Has a ballistic
reticle with posi-lock. Mounted mine in Warne QD rings so can
easily swap to irons or red-dot.

Isn't the LER like 20" on that scope? Is that not too much?

Thanks for the new option!

Nope. I looked at a lot of pistol scopes and the Burris has eye relief that is perfect for scout mounting. The back edge of my Butler Creek cap sits even with the front of the ejection port.

Did you get the scope in the Ottawa area? The Stittsvile range may be able to order the Burris.

Could you post a pic?

Got it off the EE from a guy in Montreal. Not sure where he purchased it. I have never seen Burris at Stittsville. IIRC P&D stock a lot of Burris.

Tailored my load to match the ballistic reticle out to 500yds. Using 175g Sierra SMKs loafing along at 2450fps. Shot dead on at each tick on the reticle this spring at Hungry's clinic at CFB Petawawa. I really like the rifle in this config. Still a heavy little pig, but much handier than the full-length version.
