Any recommendations on peoples experiences, I'm looking at:

-Leupold FX-II 2.5x28mm
-Burris 2.75x scout
-Hi-Lux LER 2-7x scout
-Weaver K-series 4x scout

The Hi-Lux 2-7x scout seems like a pretty good deal, gets solid reviews online, and alot of them comment on the fact that there is no noticeable change in eye relief through the range. But I would like to hear if anybody has had experience with it, or any of these for that matter. I would like the gun good for anything with 200 yards basically, nothing crazy. Range time, and deer hunting on occassion. The Weaver 4x seems like it might be a little too much magnification for fast shots?

Also have been looking at the Burris 2-7 or 3-12(AO) pistol scopes, I know these are pistol scopes, but I've seen some pretty them on a fair amount of scout rifles, and seem to yield good results. Any input?

Also, just for fun, how would a red dot (let's say 2MOA) with a magnifier stack up to a low magnified scout scope (in a forward position of course).

I don't know yet, but I'm working up a scout rifle project and I'm going to try the Weaver because I trust them for quality and I want a bit more magnification than the Leupold and Burris. I shoot with both eyes open and never found 4x to be too much when I used the SA80 with its 4x SUSAT for amongst other things, fast shots.

Hey Fyn,

Did you by chance pick up a Ruger Scout?

Anyways, I've got one on order and am debating the same optic options. I've read many online threads discussing pistol optics on rifles and the problem seems to be the eye relief.. that is too long for a rifle, even in the forward (scout) position. Again, I've got 0 experience with these and am only going with what I've read on this forum and others. The pistol scope's eye relief is Extended (at an arms length) where as true scout scopes are Intermediate (much shorter eye relief).

I'm not sure if you are aware but Leupold has a variable scout scope that will be available to Canadians shortly.

I'm in talks with the Canadian distributor and have been updating this website on it's availability.

Again, with no prior experience with a scout forward mount optic setup, I feel that a variable scope will be a tad more versatile, and am looking forward to the Leupold one.

Hopefully I've helped a bit...

PS- I'm in your neck of the "woods" as you...

Tooner, it does seem like good bang for the buck, from a reputable company.

I wish! I would love one of those rifles, maybe some day in the near future. I was actually going to give it a whirl on my Poly M14 with a Springfield scout mount. We've probably been reading alot of the same things, in the same places to be honest lol. I heard about the Leupold variable power scout, I wonder what the price tag will look like if it does make it`s way up here.

I know alot of the dedicated pistol scopes tend to have eye relief up to 20", but some seem to be in a much more useable range. For instance the Burris Scout 2.75x has an eye relief of 8.5-14" and a FOV of 15' at 100 yards. Where as the Burris 2-7x32 handgun scope lists the eye at 11-21 (low) and 10-14 (high) with a FOV of 21` (low) and 7` (high). The 3-12x32 lists the eye relief as 10-19 (low) and 10-12.5 (high), and has the bonus of being parallax adjustable. I roughly measured the eye relief I`ll need, and I ended up with approx 10-12 inches, so these seem pretty useable? I found quite a few people in the states with the Burris handgun scopes on the M1A scouts and Socoms and they seemed to work very well. But like you said, I have no real first hand experience so I can`t really say.

The Hi-Lux scout scopes seems like a good deal though, it`s a 2-7x32 and it lists eye relief as 8.7-13.2 inches, obviously has the advantage of being variable power, and Wolverine lists them for $189. The reviews in the states seem to be solid.

Still, I`d love to hear some first hand experience. I`d love to go into a store and try them all side by side, however the odds of finding any of these in stock at my local store is probably slim, let alone a few different varieties to try side by side.

Are you in town btw? If I end up picking any of these up, I`ll be sure to let you know.
