Hi Guys

im a new hunter and I would like to know if there is any handy scouting to do before the predator hunting season starts. I have access to a pretty large land with a lot of maple trees, some fir and bit of cedar. Last week I saw 2 nice little fox not too far from the land. There are deers on the land and my father in law is hunting them with his brother, they have 3 deer hunting stand set up across the land. Last winter when the snow was hardened I found some left overs from a kill. Im not sure what it was as there was almost nothing left but a few hairs and an eye with urine in the snow. The footprints nearby were similar to dog footprints

SO basically, what can I do at this time of the year to try and maximize my chances when the hunting season comes? I see a lot of deer paths, few rabit trails too.

thanks guys

The best scouting you can do is to scout out calling locations. Find places with good field of fire as well as a good view of downwind. Make sure you can arive quietly with no fuss, just sneak in and start calling.

Define "pretty large land"

Is it just one property? I think the first mistake guys make is not getting enough property to hunt and burning out the property they do have by over calling on it.

Knock on doors, get more land. When you think you have enough, knock on more doors and get even more land. It isn't hard to get access to shoot song dogs as most people want them gone anyway.

Best of luck.
