Well my 9,3x57 RCBS resizing die is putting some good scratches on the neck now... Getting concerned about the scoring on the brass - if it might weaken it and make it prone to cracks...

What do you fella's use to polish your Dies?... Whats your method of fixing them up?

Thanks.......... Bob

Fine emery cloth works for me and rifle chambers. Just wrap it around some wood doweling and slit the top so the emery cloth can grab onto it. Use it in a portable drill and spin it. 320 or finer grit is good.

If the die is in good condition the die should not be doing this scratching, send it back to RCBS. What condition is the die in?

x2 on sending them back. Also x2 on just try cleaning them first.

If you use emery cloth on the chamber or the die, you will increase the tolerances. This probably won't give you a dangerous situation but could have a nasty effect on accuracy.

Not my idea, but somewhere on Gunnuts someone mentioned to use a carburetor cleaner to clean them. Just spray it in your dies and let it drain out.

I would just send it back, they'll either fix it right or send a new one. A good point was made about possible increasing tolerances. Suppose you took a bit too much off one side, the die could be out of round, or may not size the brass down enough, if you really go at it. A drill with a dowel and emory cloth or sandpaper, isn't exactly a precision instrument.

I'd take it apart and clean it. Depending on what lube you are using any number of solvents will work. I use water based one currently, but I am going to move to Imperial wax once I can find some.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions..Sending them back to RCBS does sound like the best option as I think it would be easy to make the neck out of round if I try and remove some material... The Dies must be an older set as there is no date on them , other than the make & calibre , just the letter "P" on both... I bought them used , and am very careful about cleaning my brass and being careful with the Dies... I use Hornady Unique lube... The only thing thats out of the ordinary is I use 8x57 cases and trimmed 30-06 brass (neck expanded in steps) to form the 9.3x57 cases I need... But again , everything was cleaned and polished well first , so thats why it was a mystery to me in the first place how they got scratched... Just goes to show one that it can happen when you least expect it...

Ok , thanks again to everyone for their input...

All the best
Bob
