Hello there!

Where can I find some 8-40 (7/16" from tip to the base of the head) screws for my Leupold Mark 4 rings???:confused:

Brownels put them in the scope category, so I guess I'm screwed to make them in Canada...

Any infos will be greatly appreciated!

Western Gun Parts in Edmonton will likely have them.

Only problem is that they don't have an online catalogue ("Hello, 21st century!"), the CD-ROM is still unfinished and the printed catalogue is out of print.... But they have a whole whack of stuff, sort of a "Numrich of the North".

I contacted Brownells....

I tried ordering rings a while ago and was told all shotgun parts and all scopes, scope rings, scope bases, and associated screws were restricted to Canada and I would have to obtain an import/export license. You even sent me a form to have processed.

What products still require the state commerce export license?

Commerce has changed their restrictions, they only require and export license for barrels, receivers, actions and scopes.

Why noy contact Leupold and ask them? Call 403-938-3255 and ask for Gordon, he should be able to screw you in the right direction :D
 
I just received an order from Brownell's a couple of weeks ago, and had no trouble with screws, mags and some tools. The 'gun parts' order (the top part of their order form) was less than $100.

No problems, except for s...l...o...w delivery. :)

Does this mean we can import triggers, stocks, and all sorts of other gun parts now?

If so, then this is good news indeed. Now just need to ease restrictions on bullets and components :)

Brownells is not slow. They never have been in the 35 years I have dealt with them. I placed an online order today, they responded by email within 15 minutes that my complete order was in stock. About 20 minutes after that they sent another email stating my order has been shipped.
 
8-40 is a standard machine screw, any supplier has them, good to hear about the changes in the US. Maybe someone down there was complaining about loosing foriegn business?
 
I think 8 x 40 is a national special size and 8 x 36 is a standard machine screw.... in either case they are hard to find at just any supplier with a torx head the right size for the Leupold rings........

Ultra right!

2/3 of the speciality screws and attachement (Spanaur, metrinox, Gesswein...) commerces saids:

"You must mean 8-36 as 8-49 does not exist..."

Me "No I really mean 8-40."

Them " Does not exist."

"Screw" them!:mad:

I just need 3 of those dams screws...:eek:

I just meant the shipping seamed really slow. How fast do you get your orders?

I have never had any problems with any gun parts from the states as far as length of time for shipping. But Brownells seems to be the slowest for me as far as shipping, I guess they dont like me.
 
Look in your yellow pages and find a local guy you can actually talk to.

Calgary Fastener and Triad have both gotten me unusual stuff very quickly because of a good working relationship. (Meaning mainly that I pay cash :D )
 
I have 4 - Grade 8 #8-40 allen head screws here in my hand right now but they are only 1/4" long. Don't know if that is good enough for you, if it is you can have them!

If you think #8-40 screws are hard to find, try getting a tap and die set.. special order and $40 for the two, only took 5 months to be delivered. I ended up changing the thread to #8-36 which I had a tap for and using red loc-tite paste (Choate scope mount for a SKS). This is why I have the extra screws.

I just got an order from Brownell's. USPS air shipped took 2 weeks from Iowa to Montreal. I got nicked for GST&PST so I guess it was held up at customs for most of that time. My orders from Wolff always take less than a week to get here and never been taxed.
 
Anybody know the size despcription for the torx head screws that are supplied with Talley LWT rings?I am in need of a couple thanks RB
