With all the publicity I am curious about the seal hunt. What are the regulations? Is it open to hunters outside of the coastal provinces? Are they good eating?

They look like good eating. I ate raw seal once and it was good. In fact I wanted more but it was the first to go !!!

Seal fur really makes good fishing flys. I tie a mean dragon fly nymph using a mix of seal and polar bear.

Seal hunting is an amazing experience and they taste great too. I'm against the clubbing part but I'm all for the rest. Try it someday, you'll love it too :D

No more new sealers allowed. Least not in NF. I've been tring believe me. I really want to bag a seal.

Thanks for reminding me to send in my license fees Ljungman, wouldn't want to let it expire might not ever be able to get it again!

Can you do the course and get a Recreational License which allows you to kill x amount for food Ljungman? or what about the assistant license, can anyone new to the hunt get one of those now or just people that already had one?

Seal is real good eating, makes excellent gravy too! all you need to top it off is a bottle of Blue Star.

I hope you get something straightened out though Ljungman, I heard the other day that the prices may be up to $80 a pelt this year. I don't know how much truth was in it but I hope it's right!

The Recreational License is what I want, but everyone I talk to says I'm SOL. Which sucks big time cause I'd like to say I bagged at least one seal in my life.

try for an assistants license, you will have to get someone with a professional license to sign the application for you, and you are supposed to be with someone who has a pro license (doesn't have to be the same one who signed your app.) but DFO is usually not to particular on enforcing that rule. I do know people who have been out in boat with seals aboard and got checked with only an assistant license and never had a word said about it, but it's up to yourself if you want to chance it.

Is there any way we could persude they gov't to have a seal hunting season in B.C, it sounds like fun

You'd be in for a fight.....better have a good Hippy wackin' stick.

We used to shoot at seals with .22s from the shore when I was a kid in Labrador. Very, very fun stuff! Must have been 200 yards!

Yes, clubbing is a much easier, faster method and a much quicker death. Besides, you just fit enough bullets into your boat to kill them all!!

The good thing about the seal hunt round here is the huge sale on .223 ammo. It is awesome!! Gotta stock up.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought a 15lb club to the head killed them pretty damn quick????.

certainly faster than most gun kills........[/QUOTE]
That is true, even hitting with your fist can kill one. No wounding or suffering caused.

Every time the outdoor supply store gets the ammo in it's snapped up by the sealers!!! So hard just to get one 50rd box. Leave some for the Coyote hunters! ...........:D
