Sealing a wood stock for (smooth) painting

We have a product called Arma-Fill that would fill and seal the woodgrain on your m-14 woodstock, it works great as a primer for the Arma-Coat enamels and for any other type of paint. check out our website under Arma-fill it will have full instructions and pictures to help you with your project.

The other option is body filler... Not the fibreglass type (Bondo) which like epoxy would be more work to sand than you'd want. Look for "fairing compound" or something similar which is a lighter premixed material.

there is a place in Langley on Mufford cres called Industrial Plastics or something, they sell an epoxy sealer which is basically a 2-part epoxy thinned with lacquer thinner.

I've used it on several laminated stocks and it really soaks in and turns the top surface of the wood into a hard waterproof surface. you just add it until it won't soak in anymore, then do it again until all the pores are completely filled. Then sand it and it is ready for paint

Epoxy? Holy crap!

Just go to an auto-paint supply store and ask them for a quart of high-build primer. You can get it in single stage or two-part (with a hardener) and either spray it or roll it on.

Block sand with 320, then 600, then 1200 if you insist then degrease, tack and paint away.
