Searching for reloading supplies for 7x57, 8x57, etc.

For 7x57, I am partial to 160+ grain Nosler Partitions and Norma Oryx bonded 156+ grain. I'll take any quality large rifle primer, Federal, CCI, S&B, etc.

For 8x57 I look to Norma 196 grain Oryx.

Good luck trying to find any Swift/Barnes/Norma bullets. Now is not the time to be picky on bullet selection. If you find any stock for fair prices pick them up, the 195gr interlocks are great bullets in 8mm. Hold up well and great penetration. Used them on bears, deer, and moose with good success.

Yup... same goes for powder... there are lots of equivalents... no need to be overly rigid in your choice.

I use W760, almost exclusively in my 7x57 chambered rifles, which are built on South American Mausers.

There is one load that really shines in all of them, including accuracy/velocities with 140 grain bullets of any weight of shape.

49.0 grains of W760, under 139-142 grain bullets, over CCI250 magnum primers.

This load is identical to that use by the Brazilians and other South American nations that used the 7x57 as their national cartridge.

These rifles all have 1-9 twist rates, in favor of 140 grain bullets.

Out of a 29 inch barrel, it delivered 2900+fps, safely in equatorial conditions.

In my Mausers, both German and Austrian made, they deliver .5 moa accuracy out past 300yds.

My recorded velocities from the magnetospeed are just over 2800fps with 24 inch barrels.

This load is considered to be safe in M95 Mausers as well with a measured 39,000CUP in a Universal receiver. I wouldn't want to push this load any further in an M93 or M95 action and may start 5% lower.

For my M1935 rifles I load 51.0 grains of H414 under the same bullets for 2850fps out of a 26 inch bbl with a 1-9 twist.

This load is only a few grains more and pressures climb dramatically, to the point of slightly flattened primers but no measureable case web expansion.

W760/H414 are identical, very stable and very consistent from lot to lot. It's going to be one of the powders that will be extremely difficult to source, if it isn't already.

It's pretty much old school but isn't over temperature sensitive and works better than most in non magnum, standard capacity cases, with medium weight bullets. It can be a bit fast for best performance with long/heavy for diameter bullets and a bit slow for lighter/shorter bullets in the 120 grain offerings.

Thanks for this excellent feedback. I am definitely going to give W760 a try, once I source some.
 
Just reviving this thread. Where's all the good powder? I am down to 2000fps reduced loads using IMR4227. I did find some StaBall 6.5, but not much else. Bullets seem to be a bit easier to source, but selection isn't great.
