My understanding is that this rifle is essentially a Cooey/Lakefield/Savage 64. Am I wrong? If they are do they take the Savage 64 mags? When I google the Sears 8C I get absolutely nothing so hoping one of you knowledgeable folk can help me :)

The Sears 8C is indeed a Cooey 64 model. considered as a Cooey 64C. it is the same as all the Cooey 64 series and takes the modern Savage 64 mags.

starting with the Cooey 64 c/w plastic mag (only made 2 years) then the mag changed to the white metal mag and mag well thru the model 64....64A..Lakefield 64B and Sears 8C. also sold as the Sears 6C ( sold only in Canada) the Sears 6C that was sold in USA is a Winchester 490(also made in Canada) i have one of each.

R you bs'ing me!

sears has sold guns as far back as I remember..1950s...they sold about 300+ different models of rifles and shotguns that were manufactured and marked for them by Winchester, Marlin, Mossberg, Ithica etc. the 8C is clearly stamped Sears 8C ...made in Canada for Simpson Sears Ltd..

Will try for a pic if you send email by PM.

Back at my Great-Uncles there were some old catalouges...it was Sears or, Eatons (HBC)...not sure which but, a great gun assortment availble for mail order...I think there was a luger (and a few other pistols) in it for some ridiculously low price (say 20$)

Back when I was a kid EVERYBODY sold firearms. K-Mart, Zellers, Simpsons-Sears, the Bay, Eatons, Woolco, etc. I still remember where each of those departments was, and I would bee-line it there whenever Mom took us shopping. "I'll either be in Toys or Guns." as I ran off.

I've got my Dad's 12 gauge; J.C. Higgins for Sears, Roebuck & Co stamped on the barrel. He bought it from the catalog about 1956.
Cheers!

Sears and Eatons used to sell more firearms in Canada than any one else combined. A portion of every Sears (and Eatons) catalog had several pages devoted to firearms. They were competition for the local hardware stores and sports shops.
I have a 30/06 my father bought mail order from Eatons and a Savage 22 semi that he purchased from Sears.
Any Sears fall & winter catalog from the 1960s had firearms in it.

Thanx guy's & Winnipeg Toymaker & lone-wolf for the pic's. Never would have belived it unless I seen it with my two eye's. Just goes to show you how much our country has changed in the last 20 plus year's & not for the better I mught add.
