I just got back from hunting with Gana River Outfitters in the NWT where I was fortunate enough to take this grand old 14-year old ram. It was one tough hunt!

It's a Rocky Mountain Rifle Thinhorn in .270WSM. I was shooting factory 140 grain Accubonds. Ram was 379 yards when I shot him.

Magnificent animal.

More of the story to come?

It was a a 10-day backpack hunt. We didn't see a ram until the 7th day. He was about 36" and 8 years old so I decided to pass with the hopes of finding an older ram. It was a tough decision. Spotted this guy on afternoon of day 7 but we couldn't get in position for a shot until the evening of day 8. Finally got within 379 yards and put him down with one shot. It took us two days to pack him back to a landing strip/gravel bar on the river. We covered about 100 kms over the course of the hunt and not sure how many thousands of feet of elevation. It was one of the toughest hunts I've ever done!

AWESOME ram....a ram doesnt get to be that advanced of an age by living on the freeway..lol to harvest a magnificant animal like this will take some effort..lots of effort..you put in that effort and CONGRADULATIONS one in a lifetime..the age is even more incredible than the rest of the wonderful aspects of this sheep..

cheers
