Gentlemen,
If we take the M1 Garand as the best semi-auto rifle of WW2, what WW2 semi-auto rifle would you take as the SECOND best rifle of WW2 from any side of the WAR?
Thanks again

ps rifles only please

M1 carbine was not really a rifle, it was a replacement for a pistol. So no, no vote here.

I rather like the 1941 Johnson Automatic myself. East to shoot, 10 round non detachable, but top up-able magazine (With the action closed), easy to take apart, recoil operated not gas operated so easy to clean and, accurate. It has a very distinct recoil, kinda like getting hit twice but fairly gentle each time.
Only about 60,000 made so not high numbers but every unit that was issued sent back favorable reports.

Claven2, you'd put the G/K43 first despite the propensity for breaking down?
I'd probably put the SVT before the G43, but I dont feel qualified to rate the Garand as I've never handled or shot one.

What about the Armaguerra Fucile Semiautomatico Modelo 1939?

Semi-autos, I'm willing to go with the Garand, just for reliability.

Semi-autos for style and ease of operation, G/K-43.

Assault rifles...... StG-44, none other.

Second-place RIFLE of the war HAS to be the Number 4.

The thompson (and maybe the STG44) don't really fall under the guidelines of the original question.

The absolute best & most reliable is the M1 garand & it also makes a great hunting rifle even today with a great choice of ammo.
