How would you cut bullets and casings? I picked up some 50's cal bullets and want know how to do it safely. Band saw , file, belt sander or stick them to a face plate on a lathe don't have a milling. Will they ignite? The steel cores will they pop out? No powder empted . any help is welcomed to do it safely I am not a novice with tools. If I hack saw around the jacket will it just pop off? Want one nice side.

An abrasive wheel in a rotary tool will do it. Holding the wee thing in place will likely be the issue. The jacket on a .50 cal shouldn't come off when hack sawing. Nothing in a .50 cal to ignite. Unless you try cutting an evil APTI. The 'I' stands for incendiary.

One way to hold a bullet for sectioning is to drill a hole in, say, a block of hardwood deep enough for the bullet to be out of sight. Run it through a band saw down the axis of the hole without cutting all the way through the block. Drop a bullet in and you have both support and 'aim' for second cut with the saw.
