Could somebody identify this six shot revolver? It has W & J Kavanagh, Dublin, on the R side and on the top D.M.P. No XX. It is double action only. Thanks.

What can you tell me about the design of the revolver? Is it an Adams, as Webley or his own modification of one of the above designs?

Ah - DMP - Dublin Mounted Police. Looks like an Adams - to hazard a guess - Kavanagh was the dealer stamp (otherwise the name would not collide with the scrolling?). it is similar to an Adams British Army MkIII 1872 but could be a London Armoury Company who produced Adams pistols under license. Just a guess though.

That gun has all the traits of a Tranter not a webley! the tiny spring that controls cylinder from moveing to fast the long side lever spring that holds the cylinder shaft in place. all look like a tranter to me. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me from looking at it for like 60 seconds.
Tranter would sell unmarked frames to companys that wanted to put there business on the gun. Webley did that as well. Its a very nice gun the DA only is something Adams did to. theses gun makers all knew each other to eh so its hard to say for certin but my money is on tranter he also like to put that engraved border around the frame.

Front site is exactly the same as my 1863 6 shot 44 Tranter rimfire as well. if I could see a picture of the entire right side of the gun and frame to see if the hammer screw is a two piece screw set up that would help.
the gun mighta had SA in its past but only working DA now, the sear is not catching SA now so only DA works I see a sear screw so that makes me think its not just a DA gun.

Could be someone copying Tranter to.

Only thing different to any tranters ive seen is the cylinder that cylinder is not tranter like, so the gun might be a copy of a tranter , could be a Thomas Bland gun to. Its a rare gun theres no doubt about it. theres 3 or 4 things that are Tranter type things about that gun the front site is the exact same as a 1863s and that tiny spring in front of the cylinder on the right front side of the frame are exact the same as what tranter did .

British gun expert I know well in the USA said they think its a Tipping & Lawden.
They wrote and article on the same type of gun.

Not having much luck coming up with an image for the Tipping & Lawden pistol.
It seems everyone stole everyone's ideas back then.

I found one picture of one looked very much like yours but it was older had a rod to eject the spent cartridges on the side of the barrel. just type in that name at google and put the word pictures after it you will see a ton of 4 barrel type pistols and theres one of a gun closer to this one than any others ive seen.
I think its a very rare gun if there no other pics out there the same. This guy whos seen the pic is a author on british handguns he knows his stuff.
