Seeking advise on how we should we reply to this customer!

Customer service is dead. It was on its last legs then the inventory shortage killed it dead.

Too many businesses have taken a "my way or the highway" approach because customers outnumbered inventory and they could p*ss people off with impunity.

In general if a business doesn't sell what they don't have and remove out of stock listings or add out of stock labels, this wouldn't happen. That used to be pretty standard... It's a lot more professional and would have saved you countless exposures to people who will decide not to shop here now just for asking
.

100%!!!
But i would go a step further and make it unlawful for a company to sell a product that is out of stock, especially if they have a lowball price on the item!! These retailers know who they are and they love gobbling up email addresses so they can send “back in stock notifications” but oops, so sorry, the price has gone up due to unforseen circumstances. Not to mention daily emails about other crap.

Its shady AF and i boycott every retailer I suspect of it. We all should.
Its hard enough for local retailers to compete with the WWW, let alone phantom inventory advertised at unattainable prices.

Agreed. Look at your fellow dealers for creating this sentiment. Lots of you sell #### you haven’t seen in months but have no problem taking our $$ and then giving me the “its back ordered” after I wait for weeks for a shipping email.

If I was a customer who emailed a question that got posted to be made fun of you'd probably lose a customer.

As a retailer, I often ask these sort of questions to our suppliers. I likely already have the item on a backorder with my main guys. I'm calling because your inventory says you have it. And I want to make certain that that's true. Too often it hasn't been. Heck, more and more, our suppliers don't even stock a certain product or line. They're just assuming they can get it from the manufacturer's warehouse, so have it "in stock" on their site. And many sites won't even tell you it's backordered, even after you pay. They'll wait for you to call them. So yeah, I'm with the customer on this one. If you can't confirm that you are shipping the item, immediately. I'm not ordering.

Reading this and a few of the comments reminds me of a show that my wife watches ...... I think it's called Dr Phil

But I think the OP made a nice cast and hooked a bunch

You (not your wife) must watch a lot of doctor Phil, if you believe this was good PR

Meh...more like his hook got stuck under a boulder if you ask me...

He hooked his own behind, and has no idea how to get the hook out.

In his next post he will ask for advice on best methods to remove the hook.

Tell him that your inventory counts are correct and up to date. Then stand behind your words.

He just wanted to generate some publicity for himself, get eyeballs on his name (a not uncommon event on this forum), but it turned out that he made a bad choice of bait.

I don't think there are that many..... back in the day John the owner of Marstar used to be pretty crotchey and would express opinions that differ from the typical "customer is allways correct" approach..... but other then that I've never seen a retailer try to publicly roast a customer here on CGN.

Most recently, there was an absolutely WILD thread where another retailer grossly misrepresented the facts and then STARTED A POLL on the forum attacking the customer. Some people here, giving the retailer the benefit of the doubt, proceeded to gang up on the customer until the customer came back with photos and receipts.

Seriously, has everyone forgotten already?!

I missed that one..... still abnormal behaviour from my experience.

Post the link I wanna laugh

It's not like he posted the guys name. No need to get all worked up about it.

Some of you need more humor in your lives.
