Seeking hands on opinions for 1911

At our indoor IPSC practice today, a buddy broke the slide stop pin in his Kimber .45 ACP 1911. He had to borrow one from my back up R1 Commander.

Rare. Don't remember the last time I've seen a slide stop break in a 1911, but I have seen the cross pin (?) break in a commercial Browning 9mm, but never in an issue Inglis HP.

There are just too many choices, ranging from an old-school .45 that can play in Wild Bunch, through to optimizing for Bullseye, and then whether 9mm, .45, or .40 is ideal in IPSC; every one of the amazing variety of choices have their adherents. I don't think you can stop at one 1911; I can neither confirm nor deny the size of my collection.

Dont get a norinco or low end springfield unless you enjoy sharp edges and poor fitting.

look for a used STI Trojan or Spartan, the BUL armory guns are good as are Dan Wesson. Buy better end first

Redeyes,

Are you planning on using the 1911 for anything specific? Bullseye shooting, IPSC, recreational shooting? I’m asking as it may influence what you buy and advice we give.

I’ve owned Springfield Range Officer, Marvel 1911, two Colt National match mid-ranges and Norico (older generation). I’ve been fortunate to own such a variety. It’s likely clear I’m into bullseye shooting and there is no doubt from my experience a high end bullseye 1911 will be better than an entry level 1911. Most American bullseye shooter speak highly of the Springfield Range Officer for bullseye shooting given the price point. For IPSC I don’t know what’s popular or the best value.

I’m shooting a Pardini GT45 which I enjoy but will own more 1911s in the future.

I’m not really using it specifically for anything. I’ve just always appreciated the 1911 and now I’m finally in a position to own one. I appreciate what everyone is saying about the different 1911’s out there. As of this moment, I’m not planning on any competitive shooting. I’m really just planning going to the range and practice shooting and enjoying the 1911.

I might get into competitive shooting later, but I’m not planning on doing that anytime soon. I think competitive shooting is different than the 1911 that I’m looking for.

Get Dan Wesson " buy once cry once"....you cant go wrong , there are a few here @ EE

I own one......

Yes. That’s the way I’m thinking. With that said, some others have mentioned 1911’s that I’ve never heard before and they make the DW’s feel very affordable. I can certainly appreciate the beauty of the custom 1911’s but I’d be too afraid to shoot those. I want a good 1911 that I won’t feel bad shooting.

The Bul armory and STI are both very nice... There is almost too many options for me. I think I’m just going to get my DW first and then slowly collect these other ones. Thanks for the info about STI and Bul.
