Seeking info on Colt Officers Model

Found this colt during a renovation.

Serial is 6 digit, first 3 are 250. Tried to find date of manufacture and the closest I can find is the s/n of 256635 which was delivered in march of 1906.

This makes the 3rd gun I've found but the first revolver. Checked with CFC, not registered so its now being registered. Gun is in amazing shape, just a little rubbing wear near the end of the barrel and some minor scratches.

Cleaned it up and the barrel is like a mirror which tells me it hasnt been used much if at all. Alongside there was a box of s&w 38 bullets. Still trying to find a date of manufacture on it.

Any colt experts here want to tell me more about this?
 
Built on the I frame, basically the same frame as the Python. Leaf spring action. An early target revolver, 38 S&W being a common round at that time. Very nice revolvers, I have one in .22. If you want to sell it let me know, I've been keeping an eye out for a 38 and 32 to match my 22 (although I did want a 38 Special, but whatever). - dan
 
My "Book of Colt Firearms" shows 1905's first serial # as 241000 and 1906's as 256000, you're in there somewhere. Between 1904 and 1906 the left side of the barrel was marked COLT DA 38 after that OFFICERS MODEL COLT DA 38, what does yours show? You have yourself a beaut there and those stocks they put on them back then are to die for. I have a couple of OMs, a match and a target...just love them. Why don't you bring those horse shoes you have up your butt out to Calgary and I'll gladly do some renos with you.

WOW, I would say you got lucky there. Wish I could uncover a nice revolver like that when I do renovations..... :)

I have a 60's mfg Officers Model Match in 22lr. Lovely gun to shoot. It was purchased by my father back in the 70s and is in pretty nice shape. I learned to shoot handguns with it as a kid.

Whatguns, Thanks, its between 250500 and 251000. My research last year (link which is gone now) told me it was before march of 1906. Thanks for confirming it for me. I used to live in Calgary and love it out there. It's marked OFFICERS MODEL COLT. D.A. 38 If you zoom on on the left side of the gun you should be able to make it out.

Yes I know, I've pretty damn lucky and one of my buddies whose been involved in renovations longer than I have has never found even a pellet gun, let alone some pretty rare ones. My first find was an old 22 lg in bad shape I ended up destroying it because it was not salvageable. Second was a Springfield Krag which I restored, thanks to some members here finding the parts I needed. A fellow gunnutz made an offer I couldnt say no to. Third was this rare beauty which I'm thinking of selling to someone that can appreciate it more. I've never seen one this old in this good a shape.
