I am looking for pictures and information about Browning rifles produced by FN that used a Sako action. These would be fairly old rifles by now, I think they were called Browning High Power (confusing given the fame of their "High Power" handgun).

I am also finding it difficult to find information about Husqvarna rifles. In particular I am looking for pictures and descriptions of the various different models. Can anyone enlighten me? Pictures would be nice.

The opinions of those experienced with any of these rifles would be appreciated.

Well...I think that Browning used FN M98 actions to build their rifles. Here is a picture of one I used to own:

erroneous pics removed to save bandwidth.
I think that Sako used a Browning action, not the other way around.

here is a site with lots of Husky history and pictures:

Browning used Sako actions for at least a few years for their "short" action, at least for 243 and 308.(I believe it was during the 60s)

I own one, it's now a custom 6.5-284, it's registered as a Browning but looks exactly like a Sako, I don't know how to post pics but if you PM me with an e-mail address I can e-mail pics to you.

Thanks 1899, I've visited that site before and it is pretty good. Just can't seem to get any information regarding various models (like 1000, 3000, 4000, 5000 , 4100, 5100, 8000 etc.).

What exactly are you looking for? All the Husqvarna Models that are 1000,3000,4000 have the monte carlo stock with cheekpiece. The 1100,3100,4100 have straightcomb stocks with cheekpiece. For the most part all barrel lengths are 23.5" except for the lightweight series.(4000,4100,456,458) These models have 20.5" barrels. The 456 and 458 were full stocked carbines one with monte carlo one without. The 640 series that includes the Hi Powers, 1000, and 1100 models were built on the FN 98 action which is a large ring mauser. The 1600 series that includes the 3000/3100, 4000,4100, 5000,6000, and 7000 models were built on the HVA small ring mauser action. The 8000 and 9000 Husqvarna and Carl Gustaf rifles which were basically the same except for the markings were built on a Husqvarna designed push feed action.(1900 series action) This action for lack of a better description is similar to a Remingtin 700 action in that they both have 2 front locking lugs and a plunger ejector/clip extractor setup. There were a few other models available as well as the 8000 and 9000. They included a Varmint/Target model and a Swede model. All the 1900 series had adjustable triggers. A few of the 1600 series came with adjustable triggers made by Timney. This is a short summary of the models and I have left some out but these are the most common ones. If you have specific questions ask away. Hope this helps.

Browning/Sako Rifles

The following should help you with information on the Browning rifles with Sako actions. They were produced during the period 1963 to 1976 for the short and medium length cartridges. Browning used the larger FN action for the many longer calibers from .257 Roberts to the .458 Winchester.

Sako Short Action - #L461 Vixen
.222 Remington and .222 Remington Magnum

Sako Medium Action - #L579 Forester
.22-250 Remington, .243 Winchester, .284 Winchester and .308 Winchester

A few .234's & .308's were produced with FN actions.

I hope this helps.

The major difference between a Sako-Sako and a Browning-Sako is that the latter has a round top receiver and uses conventional screw on bases, as opposed to having integral dovetails. Some Mauser actionned Brownings used an action with a M70 style trigger mechanism & slide safety, and had a simplified bolt stop/ejector system.
