Anyone else have trouble with Federal Champion in the bulk pack (525 rounds) in this model pistol? It's what I happen to have on hand today and I wonder if the pistol just doesn't like it. Any ideas and advice will be appreciated.

I've shot this this pistol very little - perhaps two or three times, and not recently until today. I bought it used a couple of years ago and can't remember what ammo I would have used when I first tried it out. Today I fired 30 rounds (I have three mags) and had stoppages most of the time. Almost all the stoppages involved extracting the spent case from the chamber but failing to fully eject it before the returning bolt jammed it back up against the next round in the mag.

Maybe my mags aren't that great. I think the fellow I got it from said one of them was a bit unreliable. Any suggestions for a source of replacement magazines? What's a typical price? I've seen them online from U.S.A. sources for US$20.95 but I wouldn't at all mind paying a bit more to Canadian dealers who keep them in stock.

I've got a MkII Government Competition. I've only had one incident similar to what you described where the round actually was bent up when using the Federal Champion bulk packs. The only difference was the empty case did extract okay. A few things come to mind: Is the gun clean? Is there a lot of lube on the bolt? (I find they prefer very little lube and I use Remington Dry Lube on mine) How does the extractor look? (A VQ extractor from Rimfire Sports would cost you about 12 bucks shipped to your door) Good luck.
 
I run Cambodian Tire Federal in my Mk. I and I have never had one FTF in over 1200 rounds. For a good part of this the gun was filthy with carbon dust / lead and still never had an issue.

In the last month. I've shot 500+ rounds of the Federal Champion blue bulk pack ammo through my Mk.1, the action of which is the same as the Mk.II, and have had no stoppages or stovepiping.

FWIW, I'd check your mags against a Ruger-branded replacement mag (I think the Mk.II uses the M10 mag). Prices for these in Edmonton run $25- $35. Also, I'd check the quantity and type of lube in the action. Mine seems to like just a thin film of very light lube.

Invest in a new mag, it sounds like the problem. I bought a MKII in May 1985 and it has eaten everything since then, fed through two Ruger factory mags.
Last year I got an "Ultimate Cliploader" from the states and it loads the Ruger mags in just a few seconds. Great fun!

Thank you all. I've cleaned it and lubricated it according to an instruction manual found online, but I won't have a chance to test it again for at least a week. I still suspect the magazines, and will be shopping for some replacements.

(I like my Webley revolver much better.)
