Seen these crazy shotgun rounds?

just to let you guys know, i had some of those dragons breath rounds.
this was about 10 or 12 years ago. There used to be a guy over at the Detroit gunshows that had ALL those shells. Well, me and buddy got some of them. We shot the dragon shot out of my 870.
GAWDAM!
Bright daylight and I was almost blinded! Super bright.
tried another one at dusk.We had our sunglasses on this time....

Pretty cool, kinda useless. they were also ony $8 each back then..

People are crazy......

Because a shotgun shell is really just a shaped charge behind a payload
I think I will stay well away from any ammunition manufacturer who believes a shotgun shell's propellant is "really just a shaped charge".

I think it fits the criteria of being a shaped charge quite nicely.
Well, I've had a blasting ticket since about 1974. If you could explain to me how the propellant in a shotgun shell is the same as an explosive shaped charge, I surely would appreciate it.

Always willing to learn something new.

Well it's a charge (explosive) that is shaped (the shell) to direct the blast in a certain direction. Voila! It may not be what is considered a "true" shaped charge in the professional world or the strictest of terms, but it is certainly designed with the same effect.

The difference between an explosive and a propellant is the speed at which the gasses expand.

First of all, that shotgun powder is a propellant, not an explosive as you allege.

Second, it is not shaped within the shotgun hull and chamber - it is contained. The fact that it has a dimensional shape does not make it the same as a shaped charge - any old shape does not work.

Third, it most definitely not designed with the same effect. If it was and did act like a shaped charge, every shotgun would be a one-shot disposable firearm.

When I was 12 years old I would have sold my soul to own the full arsenal of loads.

Now I just wonder: what does any of this do that 000 buck and brenneke slugs can't do even better?

I mean, assuming you're not a superhero who has to fight ice monsters.
