Just spoke to someone at Smith's and inquired about that rumoured run of metric threaded GLFS's. He informed me to check back in about a month, as they are still planning on doing the batch.

I would think additional telephone calls from interested Canadians might encourage them to make the run a little larger and or a regular thing!

He informed me (rightly or wrongly - don't shoot the messenger) that they have no trouble shipping gun parts to Canada as long as the order is for less than $100 US. This would allow the shipment of one GLFS, by the way. He suggested using Brownells for their regular stuff.

Just to be sure you should contact the U.S Commerce Dept. to see whether the $100.00 exemption is vaild for the sight.

The Commerce Dept Controls the export of firearms sights & optics. In the past they had no such exemptions.I do understand they have relaxed their regulations a little over the last year.

Keep in mind that a lot of dealers/manufacturers are ignorant of the full spectrum of U.S. Export regulations. A couple large well known businesses were fined a few hundred thousand dollars for violating U.S. Export regs a while back (Midway U.S.A. was one of them). Just because you are a large well known business doesn't mean you are up to date on all the regs.

Better safe then sorry.

I sent them an e-mail on the same thing and got this:

Yes, we are making this stuff. We will announce it on the internet.

Subject: Order Info Request

Sir or Madame,

I read on one of the M14 web forums that you will be producing a Gas Lock Front Sight and Vortex flash hider that will be set up for Chinese Norinco guns? If so is it possible to order these as well as an M14 Tritium Bar Combat Sight for delivery up in Canada?

Thanks in advance for your time.

If only Rooster could get his production line up and running to the level that it could support the demand!

Anyone have any more info on the rumoured "other source" for these kinds of parts?

I bought one of the metric GLFS on the CGN exchange boards and it fit perfectly.

Make them, They will sell! Im ready to sell a kidney for one (Not mine of course):D

I'm hurting for one as well.

I would turn them out in my garage from aluminum flat stock if it wasn't for the strange metric thread on the Norc barrels. I measure mine at 16.25 mm x 1.0, not exactly an easy tap to come by. I've done the math to see if there is a imperial sized tap that could do the job but no luck. Count on them to use a thread that has to be custom cut. My only option is to go CNC where parameters can be exactly defined. I'll let you know if I ever get it done...

I'm holding off on ordering a scope mount from Ron hoping he will get these done soon. I'm probably waiting in vain though.

By reputation, Lazlo made wonderful parts, but he seems to have fallen off the radar. I don't know why, or if it's permanent. However, Arwen Ace makes some damned fine parts and if he's getting in the game, show him the love folks.

That he's 10 minutes away really helps!!!

I wouldn't use aluminum for a gas lock sight. I don't think a Alloy GLFS would be nearly as durable as the steel ones and stand up to abuse.

Aluminum would end up gas cut in no time. They need to be steel and preferabley heat treated or the dovetail up top won't last and gas erroision will be a problem. I'd by two instantly....
