As for that Arisaka, I understand that stamping and defacing the mum like that was another method of removing the Imperial crest after the war. The only way to truly tell if it is any good is to have it checked out by a competent gunsmith. The M-38's tend to be very robust however. Training schools did shoot them I would assume.
