All the stores in the GTA as well as outside; al simmons , shooters choice , huggasons , rouge river arms ,etc are sold out of CCI and
Winchester SP Primers. My only choices are the S & B's and Federals. I am reloading .38Spl for a 686 and 9mm for a CZ which is the better primer ? I will get a trigger job on my S&W 686 later this year; any wheel gunners with light triggers have experience with the
S&B primers ? Are they as soft as the Federals ? The S&B s are cheaper but should I use the Federals for a light striking 686 ? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

My light spring 686 in DA had at least 10% FTF with CCI primers. Switched to FED, no FTF. Have not used S&B (bought 20k FED primers last Sept to last a while).

Interestingly my S&B 44 Mag brass required excessive force to seat FED and REM primers but normal force for CCI primers. WIN, FED and REM brass was normal force to seat FED and REM primers. No FTF with large FED primers but occasional FTF with CCI primers on stock 629 in DA.

No problem in SA.

I would rather use the S&B primers that are less expensive and take up less storage space and have any action work done so as to be compatible with any primer. Federal primer only action jobs are no fun when you can't find Federal primers.

S&B brass seems to have primer pockets that run on the tight side. I use mainly Winchester primers and they definitely require more pressure to seat in S&B 45 ACP brass than in any other brand of brass I use.

I would hope that S&B primers would fit S&B brass without needing undue seating pressure but that's only a logical (and not necessarily factual) assumption.
