Hi everyone, I'm new to the site, but I've been having trouble finding information regarding the steps necessary to selling a restricted firearm and shipping it.

the buyer told me to initiate the transfer and gave me his name and rpal number, is this what I should do?

I'm expecting to receive payment once the firearm is registered to him, and then send the rifle. What if he doesn't send me the money after it's been registered to him?

Also does Canada post ship restricted firearms? I think they do but I would like confirmation.

Any help appreciated!

1. The general rule here is not to initiate transfers until you have been paid

2. Call the firearms office and initiate the transfer.

3. Place firearm in a box. (Don't have anything on the box that can identify it as being a firearm) if anyone asks, your shipping golf clubs.
4. Once transfer is complete, obtain a STATT to the post office. Ship with signature required on delivery.

If you transfer the gun into his name and he doesn't pay you... The gun is still legally his. Which is why I always take payment first. Talking to eachother on the phone is a good idea if your unsure of the other person. If you are not comfortable, just back out of the deal.

Based on my experience when running my business, a transfer is easily reversed if the deal falls through.
Get all information about the buyer in addition to name, PAL, etc. Make sure his phone number is good.
A buyer should do the same with respect to the seller. Needs to know exactly who he is dealing with.

Hi there:
I have bought and sold many restricted firearms on this forum the first thing that needs to happed as stated is the exchange of information, complete info from both parties, than what usually happens is payment. Than the transfer starts, once the transfer is complete you will be issued a short term authorization to transport and once the gun is wrapped up in a box it is just a parcel not an evil baby killer!! so mail it as such it is all very very easy

Is the short term ATT issued with the transfer or does that need to be applied for separately? And then the question is does the buyer need to belong to a range?
I'm currently looking for my first restricted gun.
