Selling my AR15 to an American?

Probably not sellable to an american unless the original importer wants to step up and get the re-import handled. So far only IRG has show any interest.

Incorrect. Any business with exporting and prohib clauses on their license can. "Would they want to?" is a separate question.

Non-US made are probably the easiest to export to Europe. Problem is, most Canadians want so much for their ARs that the Europeans have no interest. So is it hypothetically possible? Yes, especially if you wanted to gift it to someone in Europe just to give the finger to the government. Is it possible in a way that you'd get your money back? Unfortunately, no.

thanks for an actual answer to the question (and no whining about rolling over, etc.). i've been curious but unwilling to ask because of exactly what happened in this thread. i never thought the american market was an option, as they are more import restricted than we are. the european market, however, should be more viable. i would have thought that they would be more tolerant of higher prices too, given the taxation, affluence, etc., in europe - if you follow the vintage car market they are buying everything at over top $, so thought mebbe guns too.

i mean, is it as easy as posting your gun on 'guns international' or something similar? difficulties/differences between restricted and non-? the oic seems to have kept the option open. one concern is that the EU would be afraid of a gun dump and change the regs, especially if the buyback happens at pennies on the $ and folks start looking to get more money back and selling to the EU at a few points over the buyback value. if that is the case, the key is to get your gun sold now before the market saturates, prices drop, and rules change. heck, all those folks telling you to not sell might just be trying to keep you out of the market until they sell theirs ...

btw, before i get totally flamed here (anticipated) i understand the concept of unity on this issue, however also feel that when people are afraid to discuss something, and their fear turns to censorship, then you are doing the mans job for him.
 
The situation is what it is. We fight however we can and everyone will have their limits... With that said it's good to be informed and I find there's a lot of fear mongering about the potential for export.

Europe is very patchwork-y as far as what can be imported. Since they have their own classifications, what the gun is classified as in Canada has no bearing.

Listing them on an auction site... Is probably not practical - too much room for screw ups (buyer can't get paperwork filed properly etc etc) and the auction still has to be paid. Best way imo is to line up a buyer privately.

I wouldn't worry about regs changing. Canada's potential volume of exports is negligeble.

I strongly suspect that by the time we know what the buyback prices are it will be too late to export privately, export paperwork takes time. I would also postulate that businesses authorized to export, not being forced to surrender their inventory on the amnesty date, will step in to buy/export/profit at that time. But again, doubt there'd be profit for the current owners. We should stop thinking of profit or money in this regard. It's simply a choice of giving the government the gun or the finger. You'll be out of money either way, but one might feel a little better.
 
I have decided to strip all the legally sellable parts off and sell them. Is there someone in Calgary who could strip it for me? you can have the trigger group, safety switch, mag release etc for free?

There ya go! Your AR is not a military grade weapon. It's a 1950's design semi-automatic sporting firearm that actually shouldn't be restricted. It's an excellent survival gun for backcountry travel and should be legal for small game like coyotes. With a 22 conversion it's a good gopher gun. Whether they term us criminals or not we are lawful owners and the property belongs to us. Might be taking mine fishing as well...

Be interesting to see how the courts would handle 200,000+ new court cases when murdering drug dealer gang members are being freed because they have not had a trial in a proper time period

Isn’t that the truth but in reality they don’t care as most if not all Canadian non firearm owners either
