Semi auto 10mm advice please.

I have owned pretty well every 10mm out there, the Glock 20 is the best bang for your buck. If you aren't a Glock guy then I'd recommend the SR1911 if you can find one.

Other options would be the Springfield XDM (4.5" or 5.25") if you are looking for polymer

EAA/Tanfoglio if you want steel options. The EAA/Tanfoglios have quite a 10mm following in the US. They are not the expensive, the CZ design shoots very weill, and they are very robust. Here are a couple examples. IRUNGUNS has several models.

I had one of those EAA Witness All-Steel 10mms...Quite nice, but I find myself preferring my SigP220. The Witness in a touch heavy, and with an enhanced recoil spring and the skinny slide top, it is a little hard to pull back the slide to load.

I'm interested in the Springfield XDM, as it will be a lot lighter than either my Sig [still love it!] or the Witness.

Thank you. Curiously, how would you compare the Glock to the XDM?

The P220 10mm is nice for sure. I had the full stainless SAO with adjustable sights. My only complaint was that the trigger was quite heavy. I may get up another but this time try a different variant, like the Legion, or a DA/SA. I also have the EAA Witness Hunter. It is a total tack driver and it just seems to work for me but I'm a big fan of the CZ platform. I also like the 1911's in 10mm.

Never had an issue running some factory and (pretty hot) reloaded 10mm through my Gen 3 Glock 20. I've seen a few of that same gun in the EE for really good prices.
I agree. I have a gen 3 Glock 20 and I have no complaints.

I'm assuming the gen 4 is just as good as the gen 3? I did think a gen 5 had come out, but sounds like not.

No large frame 5th gen Glock last I checked. Unfortunately I have yet to pick up a 10mm XDM so I can't compare directly but if I were to compare the .45 XDM to a Glock 20 it would be a favorable comparison. The XDM is a very decent pistol.

Not a Glock fan but, I'd get one in 10mm any day.
Once you have the Glock, you can buy a 10mm Kriss Vector and swap magazines.

ive got a Glock 40 that i picked up to get into the 10mm game and i dont regret it at all, damn things hasnt had one failure of any type.
ive even picked up some super hot Buffalo Bore (3 different flavors) and they ran perfect.
when i get some time im gonna try to reload some hot loads for it.

i got bored and went a little overboard with it as well, i put on a threaded barrel and a compensator and put a red dot on it.
seems like a fun thing to do.
and maybe a magwell.....
but i really do love the gun, so smooth to shoot with that comp on it.

thing is a BEAST!

im temped to pick a G20 if they ever make them in the G20C configuration again.
im also looking at the SR1911 in 10mm as i have a weakness for Ruger 1911's.

A quick note to 10mm ammo ... most commercial 10mm, especially from the big manufacturers is just slightly hotter .40 (you can tell when looking at their energy vs. .40 offerings) . Sometimes only around 5-10% more . For full power 10mm you have to get such like buffalo bore or underwood ammo.

Something else to consider is that per the interwebs, not all 10mm guns can take full power 10mm without showing some wear

Teac

^ They can all handle full power ammo, some guns will just last longer with a steady, high volume diet of it, which most will never shoot anyway. A properly set up 1911 will have no issues with some Buffalo Bore. Moderate power ammo (like Remington, Hornady, Sig - 180gr at 1150 f/s) seems to be as equally available as the low power stuff (like American Eagle, PMC CCI and PPU pushing 180-200 gr at 1050 f/s)

Great advice all. Lending towards the G20. Intend to only use buffalo bore style ammo and to shoot occasionally so should be ok for wear. Any recommendations where to purchase, any worthwhile accessories and a suitable holster? Cheers.

Two great choices for sure! The old 1006 is a tank but has an absolute #### trigger and is priced well above what I would consider it's worth if you aren't a collector. Things like the STI are nice as well but are quite expensive, I do not believe the Perfect Ten is actually being produced any more. Of course you can get nice 10mms from Nighthawk and Wilson Combat but they can run $4000+ easily. I would never recommend the Witness to anyone. I understand most are fine but mine started disassembling itself with light target loads, it took well over a year to get it back from EEA.

Something to add as well, aside from using proprietary powders that squeeze max performance out of cartridges Buffalo Bore is nothing special as far as pressure. It's all SAAMI spec unless denoted by a "+p" mark, which none of their 10mm is. It's extremely expensive ammo you can make yourself otherwise...

Good choice. Can't go wrong with the 20. You shouldn't have any issues with any ammo. Epps, Firearms Outlet, and IRunGuns have them to name a few. You could try used on EE as they are not uncommon. You'll save a couple hundred at least.

Yes that was certainly the case. A few batches of early models had flawed steel and bad QA which led to a slew of problems including frame and slide cracking in understand. New production, particularly with the Elite and Stock series frames, are bomb proof, at least according to many of the member on 10mm firearms forum.

In my case the flaw was in their "wonder finish" treatment. I don't know if they did it wrong or if the process just sucked but it lead to serious chipping and cracking problems.
