semi auto .223

Well, you're asking this in the hunting forum...so I assume you want non-restricted..? Probably best if you give some idea of your budget. Probably the best value (even though I don't care for it) is the Benelli MR1. I'd rather have the Mini14, and cross my fingers I could get it shooting 2" @ 100 yards with hand loads. At least a Mini14 Ranch is wood/metal.

From there, the cost about doubles+...when you get up to Tavors, Robinson Arms XCR-L, etc. Maybe even worse once Canadian stock in these guns gets depleted, and dealers here have to buy at the new (+$) cost. Some probably are already. I personally had an XCR-L and while it shot 1"-1/4" with hand loads...the "semi" novelty wore-off quick. Rarely needed a quick follow-up, and, it was a heavy/bulky/hot thing to lug around in the summer heat. That rifle is gone, and replaced by a bolt gun.
