IMO, 45-70 belongs in a levergun or single shot.

I think the right question would be how LONG does it handle BP? First few shots should work fine, assuming the load has enough oomph to cycle the action... But how many shots are you gonna get before the thing stops running reliably?...

Just seeing that this is a totally different cartridge btw. It is the rimless 45-70 Auto, not 45-70 Government. 325gr at 2300 ft/sec and 3800 ft.lbs

In a 10 lb semiauto with a big break, it is probably not that bad.

What would one use a lever action 45-70govt for?

Compared to the sorts of things used in Africa (375h&h, 416 rigby, 458 win mag, etc) this isn't a super-powerful cartridge, it produces about the same energy as a 300 win mag.

Rifle hunting with a semi is not my personal thing but not hard to imagine some folks in the US wanting to use something like this for black bear or hogs within a practical range.

KAK industies came out with 450 marlin upper also, as if your not broke enough shooting 45.70 threw a semi. Fun.fun 4SUR

That makes sense. Feeding and magazines would be a nightmare with the rim.

Other thing that occurs is 22wmr. The rem 597 and ruger 10/22 can be hard to get shooting accurately and action to run without stoppages. So many varieties of 22wmr. This would be as hard in 45-70. Different bullet shapes, cast vs jacketed. Power levels from gallery loads using Unique to 500gr stomper loads.
