Semi-Auto Advice?

What advantages, besides fit and finish, does the M4 give over the 930? I find the price tag of the M4 hard to justify. I have read good reviews of the 930, it functions well and you can ghost load it just like the M4. I can easily add a mag extension to the 930 bringing my capacity up to 5+1+1. The only thing is I like ghost ring sites so I would have to have some installed on the 930 (I'm not a fan of Mossberg ghost rings though).

I know the M4 is a nicer gun, but I dont think it offers any real adavantge for me other than lightening my pocket more.

Thoughts?

You'll only lose a couple hundred if you decide to sell the M4, can't say the same for the Mossberg, if someone even wants it. The fit/finish and quality difference btw the M4 and 930 is huge. Sort of like comparing a Savage to a Sako bolt action.

My only gripe with the M4 was the lack of bbl. choice, there isn't any. Enter the Benelli M2, best made multi-purpose semi-auto, IMO.

So your saying the reason to spend more than a thousand dollars more on a gun that does the same thing is resale value? Sorry I have a hard time wrapping my head around that one. The 930 is a solid gun. I'm sure I could sell it down the road.

Ya,i wasnt going to say anything but thats a bass akwards way of looking at it.I also dont understand the comment ''if anyone would even want one'' the Mossberg 930 SPX, was NRA's 2009 Shotgun of the year. They sure seemed to want one....

Go Benelli M4. You will never regret it.

- Non-Restricted
- Capacity is 5+1+1. That's right, 7 shells in the gun total. 5 in the mag, one in the chamber, and one under the bolt.
- Built like a tank. No problems will be had with reliability or durability.
- If looks could kill... :p

Without a doubt the best shotgun I have ever used. Everything about it just works.

You can ghost load the 930 as well.Dont get me wrong id love to have an M4 and plan on getting 1.No question it is better then a 930 hands down.I just dont know if its 1700 dollars better.

Any one have a line on a Benelli M2 Tactical? I can't seem to find one online so I can get an idea of price or availability.

I'm guessing they are about a $1700 gun.

Can you ghost load a M2 like you can the M4 or Mossberg 930?

No, I don't believe it works on the M2 without mods to the underside of the bolt.

Ellwood Epps has M2 Tacticals for $1750.

Thanks bearkilr.

From the reading I've been doing for the last hour at shotgunworld.com the M2 is basically the same as the older M1, it is just unable to ghost load. This can be fixed by doing a quick modification to the bolt, filling a slot with some epoxy. Seems to have all the features I want. All Id have to add is a sling and a light mount. Price is still a little steep, I'll have to do some figuring to see if I can come up with the cash.

Any one want to buy a 590A1 with side saddle and Limbsaver recoil pad?? :D

I would give a cautious thumbs up for the 930 as well, I have only had mine ouyt twice yet and the first time it ran flawlessly but today it was failing waaaayy too much on me......mostly extractor failing to extract. HOWEVER my buddy was shooting it and it ran absolutely flawlessly for him...that is bizarre. Anyway once I get the 'issue' ironed out and determine it reliable to trust my life and limb with it will replace my 870s.
K1ngC or any or the other longer time owners if you have any suggestions please send me a pm.

Cheers

frankly I would buy the best quality gun you can afford...

do not short sell the remington 1100 or 11-87 either, yes they cycle slow but they are what they are... I like my beretta 1201FP but I have also shot the m4 and m2 benelli's....

frankly I would stay away from the chinese cheapies..... unless you can afford to buy several andcan diagnose issues with them. the great thing with major manufactuers is that the forums have a wealth of knowledge on how to do reliability work on brand name guns....

with chinese guns who knows... bad metellurgy, cheap parts who knows.... i know there are "some" good chinese clones such as the 1911 but it seems all the rest of them with the exception of the m14 and maybe the 870 clone have been a flop.

I have an 930. I wanted to see how much I liked/used a semi without commiting big bucks to one. Its no M2/M4 or SAT8 but its pretty good.

I have had some feeding issues with cheep Win X shells, but havn't had an issue with Win heavy target AA loads.(I then reload the hulls with slugs). Low recoil Win Light slugs will not feed 100% in the cold, but now that it has warmed up it dosn't seem to be a problem. Rem Field load also work well. I cannot recall having any issues with any heavy slug or buck loads.

Here it is with a custom 1 3/4 mag extension, Rem Sling plate, Limbsaver, S&J Charge handle, S&J Elastic Shell holder.

In the end Im using it a fair amount and comfortable with how much I spent on it. However, if it hits the fan, Im grabbing the 870.

Well, I got caught up in the moment and bought a Benelli M2 Tactical.

I figured in the end, I'm sure the Benelli will be worth the money. Just something about those Italians :D . Sold the 590A1 on the EE the other night. Must have priced it right because it didn't take long to sell.

Ghost Ring sites, Comfortech stock, Crio chokes etc.

Should be a blast, thanks for the advice.

Any advice on a sling?

If M4 is a bit tight for your budget, consider M2 - basically the same quality shotgun for slightly less $$$$$$ - it should run you around $1700 new.

I have the 930 and it has ran everything I have put in it. I love it! My first semi-auto shotgun and I really don't think I went wrong.
