Hello Gentlemen,

I am seeking some expert advice / knowledge on the matter of using and setting up my beautiful BAR Browning Safari in 7mm Rem Mag BOSS to it's fullest potential in the realm of precision shooting and I have a few questions for the experts,

First-off, I have already read my a** off on this forum and on others in regards to BAR accuracy and on semi-auto accuracy and potential in general and I realize that this is not the system of choice for precision marksmen for many reasons. I also understand that auto loaders are dis-advantaged off the hop in this area.

My intent is to hunt at long ranges ( prairie deer etc ) and I just need a little insight as far as setting a goal.

My questions for the experts are:

1. What can I or should I have done to this rifle mechanically that will aid me in my quest without altering cosmetics.

2. Realistically, ( and I think I am a fairly good shot ) what should I expect in terms of accurate range performance un-altered, the way it is and what can I stretch it out to with tuning a load and and recommended modifications.

I have recently purchased this rifle and started to load for it but I am just learning. I have high-end equipment to load with, (precision mic's, concentricity guage etc,)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What do you consider "long range"? To humanely hunt animals over great distances requires a skill and equipment investment that really is levels above the average hunting scenario. Tell us more about the animals and distances you intend to hunt and I'm sure a number of people will chime in. I will say off the get go a BAR would not be my first choice for LR shooting. - dan

I would say the 500yd + area would be my goal, I am not sure if this is attainable or even realistic for this rifle, From what I have read the 7mm Rem Mag is a favored calibre for Long Range Hunters. There are just a few grey areas.......

The thing of it is, I am just so in love with this rifle that I have high hopes for it, maybe too high. It is a thing of beauty and it speaks to me....I am sure you guys know what I am talking about.

As far as I know all you can do is have a quality scope mounted in quality mounts and shoot it, tune the boss to the best setting and that's it... you don't tune the load with a "Boss". You will be full length sizing with a semi auto and with hot loads for maximum ballistics you should probably scrap the brass after 3 loading's.

If you can get it grouping about 3/4 moa I think you should be good out to about 600 yards BUT the trigger pull on the BARs are quite heavy so you would really have to concentrate to go beyond 450 on a deer size animal....
Remember, the first shot is the most important. You really only need a single shot for longrange hunting(imo)....
