I have read the previous posts on sat 8, m4, etc. etc. semi- auto tactical shotguns, there seems to be confusion as to what is or is not restricted.

Is there a clear semi-auto law?,
or are there special restricted "mean looking guns" and we have to sort through them one at a time.

thanks

semiauto, anything with a barrel under 18.5 inches is restricted.... plain and simple.

pump action..... if manufactured with an OAL length of under 26 inches (the whole gun, not the barrel) the firearm is restricted.

Thanks,

I'm aware of the two shot for hunting, five elseware capacity rules,

I want to clarify the situation of a semi-auto tactical shotgun that can hypotheticaly carry say 7 in the tube but is plugged for 5( not permanent, ie tool required, just dowel spacer), can we buy it non - restricted?

This may be a non issue, I don't know the capacity of all the tac, shotguns out there.

My understanding of your question is this:

Hypotheticaly you could buy a shotgun with a plugged tube; chance of doing that in Canada is very unlikely.

First, for a storefront to get the shotgun into Canada from the supplier the shotgun must be pinned at the factory (the dealer can't order prohibs, then pin them themselves once they've arrived - customs would freak out.)

It's much easier to import the shotgun with no extension (which is why most semi-auto shotguns in Canada have no extensions).

Now, in the case of the 1100/11-87 where the 870 tube extension is interchangeable, yes you can install one as long as it is plugged in the manner specified by out great law (i.e. a rivet / dimple / made of similar material-metal - difficult to remove); a wooden stick or plastic plug would not work if that's what you are thinking ;)
