semi auto for clays? which gun is the best

Bang for your buck, the Winchester SX3 is still the gun to beat. They are the softest recoiling and most dependable gun with the largest range of loads and cost a few hundred less than the competition. The Sporting model as an adjustable comb and come with a spare gas piston for even more load versatility. If you get the field models they have all the shims and spacers require to make it fit you. Inertia guns are popular because the company has great marketing and advertising skills...that's about it though!

Been shooting clays since I was 10.... So that's 21 years..... Whatever fits is the best choice. I've shot anything from bargain basement o/u to Brownings, to perazzis.... My averages were all within the same ball park.

With that being said you pay for reliability and customer service. If you want to go duck hunting after shooting clays I'd look at beretta or browning. Haven't played with them myself but have shot along side them and they function very well, and are reliable when those feathered buggers are coming in.

Ps: I love browning. They fit me very well and they will be my go to for shot guns. Could I save up for a perazzi or krieghoff? Yup.... But I can perform just as well with a browning......

Have a look around at a big Sporting Clays shoot ... it should be fairly obvious that the Beretta A391's and A400 Explors outnumber all other auto loaders
in use by a several times factor. Yes, I've seen a few Brownings, Winchesters and Benellis ... but comparatively ... very few !

Budget would play a big role here but IMO a quality gas gun is going to be more reliable with light loads used on the clay fields.

As you have noticed, there is a common comment ... gun fit. That is the key. My personal choice is the Winchester Super X-1. If I was looking for a new gun, I would go with a Beretta. Gun fit is the key.

Again, :) gun fit being the top criteria for selection - you may also wish to look at the A400 Xcel....this is an excellent clay gun (if you could get past the blue receiver). I often see lightly used specimens on used gun racks at great prices.

They are mine as well but nobody today wants a used gun today, let alone one that never left the factory with a barrel that accepted choke tubes. So I seldom waste my time recommending them to anyone anymore. Did you have thinwalls installed in your's, get a 30" barrel reamed to LM or what?

Makes no difference, but like stubblejumper says, the one that fits you best is the one you need. There's no such thing as the best for any kind of shooting game anyway.

Fabarm makes the best semi clay guns.
Do you own one? Please tell us more about it and why it is the best. They haven't been on the market that long and as I haven't shot one yet it would be great to hear from the owners on how the gun is doing. On paper it is very interesting but that doesn't always stand up in real life.

I have a trap barrel, a skeet barrel and a 30" barrel with Briley choke tubes ... :)) There are still people making parts and a tubed barrel is the way to go.

Oh ok...I just get curious when others mention them because for such a great gun they are basically unknown. I actually own 11 Super-X Model 1 shotguns...and lots of extra parts! LOL! I find one of my 30" trap barrels opened to LM does the trick for about 90% of Sporting Clays presentations, so I'm unsure about chokes...and I can't decide if I want to go with Briley or Wright's anyway.
