Semi auto for hunting

I was thinking about getting a semi for shooting ducks/geese/deer/turkey. I have always owned pumps, but need to add a semi to the safe. I was thinking about the Rem 11-87/ Benelli M2 and the Beretta series. I like the Remington price, but how do they compare to the "B" series of shotguns? Are the Remingtons reliable, or should I fork over the extra money for the Beretta or Benelli type of gun? I want a good reliable gun, that is tuff enough to stand up to rough weather conditions that will NOT rust.

well if you dont want it to rust dont get the remington. a buddy of mine has one that has constant rust problems, and believe me he takes care of it.
also jams and burns up O-rings like their going out of fashion.
another shooting acquaintance has one that will also rust, during the off months when hes not using it he reoils it at least twice and still gets some rusting

he's also got a beretta extrema2 with a 24" barrell ( as do i ) .. and to date its the best shotgun ive used. with my old Fabarm Lion H38 hunter a close 2nd

its light for the size, cycles everything, 3.5" chamber

best money ive spent on a shotgun to date



in saying that, both of their 11-87's are more than 10 years old - have had a good run.
 
I just ordered a Mossberg 930 Autoloader, you can't beat the price (about 530 bucks) and they are apparently very reliable. Will post a review when I get mine. I got the rifled slug barrel with it for deer hunting.

"special purpose" coating



as per the 930.. i had one of those as well and loved it.

also good for unloading the mag at the end of the day, you can press in the elevator with your thumb, press the bolt release and out pops a shell from the mag tube.. no pissing about
 
Browning are great guns just a little over priced but everyone I talk to says the same thing. Anyways I like the Auto-5's (brothers gun sadly) nice guns don't forget the oldies they can come in 3" so you can get some heavy steel loads out there for the geese too. Good luck.
 
SP10 or Browning Gold light in 10 gauge.

You likely have enough 12 gauge shotguns with your pumps. Its time to experience the real beauty of shotgunning. :)

What!?! Browning's overpriced!! No way. A Benelli, now THAT'S an overpriced gun. $2000+ for a gun (SBE II) thats simple to make, and synthetic at that! You are definately paying the price just because it says Benelli on it. Granted, they are a very good gun, just not a $2000 gun.
 
Well they don't really make the gold anymore so it's either the maxus or the silver. I vote for the silver, but only because I shoot one.

Or the A-5...one of these days I'll not splurge on other things and pick one up for myself as a turkey gun.

You're right about them not producing Gold's anymore, but some patient searching will find you one. Last month I scored a NIB Gold Classic Stalker, an awesome semi. Also know of a NIB Gold Stalker 3 1/2", and a few others. They are still out there. As for the Maxus, as soon as the 3" version becomes available, that will be next in the safe!

If you are a true semi auto fan, especially Browning, you definately need to experience an A5. I bought a NIB A5 from a fellow CGN'er a while back, and it's one of my prized possessions. Guns just aren't made like that anymore. If you're into nostalgia like I am, throw on a flannel hunting jacket, grab an A5, and chase some pheasants. You'll feel like you're in 1970!

LOL, I was in 1980, so I don't know if I'm ready for the 70's. And we don't have any pheasants here, hence I'll be using it for turkeys.
 
Two of my huntin buddies shoot semis, one has th Browning silver in shadowgrass, the other has a Win super x3. Both love em, haven't had any issues. After firing them and in my unbiased opinion I would have a hard time saying which was nicer. I had would probably wrack my brains if I had to pick which one to buy personally. Both are very fine semis.
