Semi-Auto for mainly trap/little skeet

I would suggest Remington 1100 Competition. With the adjustable comb and butt pad its hard not to make it fit. Also with the 5 chokes you can move from skeet, sporting clays to trap.

Shot it for over three years without a miss fire.

I did find it somewhat barrel heavy.

I have an a400 xcel sporting 32 in barrel and use it for trap singles. I also have a browning xtr trap.

the beretta a400 is a very soft shooting gun that points amazing. cleans super easily and does not require o rings like the 1100 does. you can't go wrong with an a400. you can find them used as low as 1650 on ee here.

As far as Auto’s go, I would say you have the Ultimate clay gun.

Stay away from the 1100 Competition. Old technology and much better guns out there. Yes the 1100 is a good gun but....

I've bought and moved along most of the guns mentioned hanging onto two for semi auto use, a Winchester SX3 Ultimate Sporting and a Benelli Super Sport. The SX3 is the softest shooting same as the Browning Gold line while the Benelli will give a bit more punch with the inertia action. Having said that always liked the Beretta 391 just a matter of what fits you.

I've moved to 32" guns in my O/U's with the semi Benelli 28" with the SX3 30"

Just got a SX3 ultimate sporting , great gun soft to shoot eats anything you feed it and easy to clean. It comes with a adjustable comb and ported barrel. as been factory fitted with a over size bolt handle and bolt release. Weighted end cap on mag , can be adjusted for balance . Some find the pistol grip little to big. I have large hands and it fits me well. after about 400 rounds ,no failures of any kind.

this is my second year shooting an sx3, haven't had an issue yet. I use it for everything from shooting clays, to birds, to moose and bear. The gun doesn't come with a huge price tag, but my friends don't read receipts before they judge me.

I have an a400 lite I use for skeet with 7.5. I don’t know if I got a bad one, but it won’t eject 3” shells, even though it’s supposed to run 2 3/4 and 3”. Also, I cannot use the cheap Winchester Target shot, shells get stuck.
I bought it not because I am particularly recoil sensitive, but because I wanted a light gun that’s easier to hold all afternoon while out shooting at the farm. When I used an ultrasonic to clean the factory grease in places it shouldn’t have been, it started to work fairly reliably, but it is high maintenance finicky guncompared to cheaper gas shotguns I’ve used. It could be an issue just with the “lites” or maybe a lemon.

It doesn’t kick much at all using Challenger Target 7.5. I can use it all day.
Based on your price range. Have you considered the Benelli Super Black Eagle III? It was the other One I was looking at before I decided to go with the Beretta. I have heard good reviews on it, but I didn’t want an inertia driven shotgun at the time. In hindsight, I think I may have been better off.

there's something wrong with your a400, most of them work very well. Maybe improper disassembly/reassembly ? How old is it ? You my have to send it back to Stoeger for repair.

Agreed, it will be going back. It’s 1/2 year old. I’m just waiting until my intended new custom 12ga comes in, in Feb. When I get that gun, this one is getting shipped back. Until then I’m suffering with it. It’s an a400 lite, so it could behave differently statistically to the other a400’s. I have other Beretta guns and they are all perfect, (except this one). When my custom one comes in, I’m sending it in to Stoeger Canada, but until then, I can make it work fine if I used Challenger 12ga 7.5 2 3/4. It works well now with that ammo but doesn’t with... well basically anything else I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a lot. Thing is I had a problem with the first of this model I got in, and managed to return it to the retailer within 7 days. THIS was the replacement, and I didn’t get a chance to trial it wothin the retailer’s timeline, so I will sent it back to Stoeger eventually. The a400 lite has a bad design or I’m unusually unlucky to have two act the same, the second being the replacement for the first.

What are you getting as your “intended new custom” ?

I’m female. So I’m getting a custom shotgun for humans with proportionally longer necks. ;)

Good luck with the fitting, as a male with not normal measurements I can relate to fitting problems. It took me two try’s on my latest shotgun.

Thanks! Appreciate that. I probably won’t get it perfect on the first try either, but expecting it to be an improvement.
