Hi,

I am looking to buy a semi-auto in 7.62 x 54r. The SVT-40 and VZ-52 are the obvious choices for that. Which is the better firearm? I intend to use it just for range shooting. I will be using russian surplus ammo. I dont mind paying the extra 100$ or so for the VZ if it is that much better.

Thanks

SVT-40 will split cases I've heard. If you're not planning to reload then it's battle tested and proven to work.

semi-auto (7.62x54r)

I would get the vz52/57 more ammo available and amuch handier rifle, 7.62x54r is getting expensive . please don`t rage shoot go to a range:) and be calm

If I were you, just get a SKS in 7.62x39....more ammo available, and cheaper. If you want bigger, go M1 Garand or Norinco M14. More brass available for both for reloading, and you can get it from Canadian tire....

Since I already have an SKS, should I go M1 or M14? The M14's are a good price and are brand new. the M1's have more history to them and are probably better made, however more expensive than the M14.

If you are truly interested in the SVT, Frontiertaxidermy had two left about two weeks ago. I ordered one so the other might still be available...
