Semi-auto in prs type matches?

Looks to be around 300 yards. There are probably multiple firing positions at different distances for prone and they can put barricades to bring you up higher than the ferns at any distance.

Badger M2013 (or M2008) action.

Do you see how bolt bind can ruin your day in this game?

Without a doubt, the bolt has to be able to move smoothly within the action. Many actions will do this or can be modified to do this.

I think where many have real issues is in the mag set up. Most will gravitate to the AICS family of mags BUT poor install will do more to harm cycling ease then a binding action.

Setting up that mag is true gunsmith art and unfortunately, many don't spend the time or money to really get it done right.

Then proper sizing of the ammo so nothing hangs up when the bolt closes. All small subtle steps but the end result is wonderful to view and I am sure a joy to use.

But this mover stage sure would be easier with a semi AND A GREAT BIG MAG - Loaded with tracers of course :)

Fun, fun, fun.

A mag just exasperates the problem if its there. Many custom actions will bind if you try and cycle the bolt rapidly without a mag in and apply any amount of side force (which will happen when shooting from positions). Yeah, they can be modified. The easiest fix is to turn a few thou off the center part of the bolt. That is what Surgeon does (in addidion to the anti-bind rail. If you mic the bolt, the diameter is smaller in the middle than at the ends. So, it cycle smoothly, but locks up tightly.

Seems Mauser got it right then :)

All too often, shooters want tight, tight, tight... sounds good on paper but get in the field and all manner of problems pop up. Yes, we can set up bolts so that lock up is tight but loose during the cycling phase.

For the generic Rem, Borden Bumps or bolt shimming are the most common solutions. On some super tight custom actions, some reduction in the waist is needed. Just whatever suits the end use goals and customer specs.

And that applies to F Class as much as PRS. If you are shooting from the ground, better think ahead to deal with water and dirt.

And why I love that "sloppy" Savage bolt. Now to resolve the ejection fling and get the cases moving out of the action aggressively.

PS if shooters just tried "stressing" the action in cycling, they would find out quickly if the action will bind. There is one very popular brand where I have been able to bind EVERY action I have played with....but they are still used.
