did you improve the piston such that is no longer prone to failure and the piston is easily removeable for cleaning? if yes can you see yourself selling gas system kits to the thousands of owners of Kanadian 180 owners who are vexed by the chronic failure mode of an otherwise decent operating system? btw, very nicely designed rifle, if you get a FRT I'm in for one.

I don't think a drop-in conversion will necessarily work for those existing 180s. You're right that the gas piston rods on those guns are all the weak link. The best solution would be to use an unmodified Brownell's BRN-180 gas system, new gas block, and new 18.5" barrel with a gas port at the right location (roughly "rifle" length). It would add a little bit of weight and $200-300 extra cost, but it would run 100%.

LOL, anyone concerned about the price of a bespoke handmade rifle is not in the ballpark of what such a rifle would cost.

High end mass produced rifles are selling for $3000 - $5000 cad. Expect a custom handmade rifle to be considerably more expensive than that.
 
I suspect the OP got hold of a CA SA80. There were also some semi auto SA80 in the US in very small number. I heard that that there were 50 CA SA80 imported but only half of them were registered.

They did come with the SUSAT - lots of owners of those CAs are getting old.

Nope haha. SUSATs are available all over Europe if you know where to look / who to ask :)
