I'm purchasing my first rifle (Lux 455), will quickly be adding a hand gun to the collection but need assistance for my third firearm.

I'd like a semi-auto, wood stock rifle thats customizable and it will be for targets only. My only other condition is that it have really good quality/reliability out of the box. I also want customization (add a bi-pod, scope etc) and dress it up for the task I've got planned.

My early thoughts suggest a Ruger 10/22, but I'm open to experiences, suggestions and feedback that a new to the sport shooter wouldn't necessarily pick up on his own.

Thanks!

I'm not sure many people would consider a 10/22 a "precision rifle".

Are you looking at 22 only? If so, you might get better answers in the rimfire section.

If you want a better than average accuracy in a Ruger 10-22, I suggest you check out Dlask DAR-22. He's in BC and I'm sure you could arrange for a wooden stock to be added instead of the synthetic Hogue stock.

Your title is a bit deceiving friend. Most of us do not mentally picture a Ruger 10-22 as a 'long range semi-auto' just saying. I guess it hinges on what one considers long range I guess. Certainly there are exceptions to the rule. :)
