If you want a synthetic stainless no maintenance accurate rifle then the thompson center r-55 all weather is your rifle. Shillen match grade barrel, needs no mods, very accurate. I have one NIB for sale in EE They do like cci minimags and AE 38gr hollow point.

this target was shot at 20 yards, sitting resting on elbows, cci minimags, thompson center r-55 with leupold 3-9 vx11

I have a Ruger 10/22 and a Remington 597 VTR. Same gun I think, the 597 is more accurate, the Ruger has better resale value and more aftermarket stuff available. I did a trigger and extractor job on the 597 and it is now smooth as silk.
